Probably will end up just doing welding cables. I can source some within my budget of nothing and make them last for a while.

I lucked out today. Couple weeks ago I picked up this on the deal of the day for $67. I purchased it for those times I'm out alone and needed it. On the way out of the State Park I ran across some folks needing a jump. I was so excited to test out the gadget I bought, so I could verify the thing works. It worked. Small SUV, didn't note the battery size. Probably won't bring back a flat dead battery, but we got it started on the first attempt. Hopeful it'll work when I need it. I still have jumper cables, but that only works when you've got another battery.

Good timing bringing this back up. I was thinking about some of this when I was in Big Bend and what I could do in different situations. A dead battery really only leaves one or two options and most of them require a 2nd good battery.
That's what happened to me at @thekidcatcher property this past January. Temperature dropped to the 20's and we hopped in the truck to go back to the cabin after hunting and my main battery was dead. Flipped a switch to bring the secondary online and the truck fired right up.
