Lots of good info in there!! Guessing it's basaically the same process. Looks like the main points are to try not to catch the interior on fire and make sure you leave enough room to depress the clutch all the way.

lol. Or double down on the insurance! :)

I'll be doing this soon as well. Here's another small write-up about tubbing for 35s on another 1st gen.... pretty much same information as the ttora write-up but hey, more research before cutting up your firewall can't hurt right??? lol

BTW, why'd you choose 4.88s over 4.56s for gears? All the 2nd gen guys I've talked to (granted, that's not a whole lot) with 35s and 4.88s say they would have gone with 4.56s if they could do it over again....

Because I got the 4.88's local for $400 assembled in the carriers.

Funny cause everyone that I talk to with 35s and 4.56s says they wish they would've gone with 4.88s. Probably a difference in what we use the trucks for.

Wow, that's a great deal!

Interesting...... Now that I think of it, most of the guys I was talking to were long/mid travel guys..... that probably explains it.

Wow, with 33s too?

Yeah, around town it was great, but out in the hill country and up in the mountains it got to be a pain to have to downshift all the time because of all the extra weight from armor lift and sliders. When I was overgeared (4.56 with 32s) it drove alot better and my gas mileage wasn't any worse for it (corrected for speedo error).

If you're going to put 35's on your '99, then I'd definitely go with 4.88 or higher. 4.88 puts you at factory ratio if you have the 3.4l v6 and 35s

Do you guys mostly do crawling then? What about freeway driving? I've got some 35's waiting to go on my truck and I thought I was convinced to go with 4.56....... I may have to do some more research.

IMO 4.56 and 33s was perfect with the 4.0 and 5speed auto it was just overgeared a little bit and it worked awesome now not so much with all the extra weight added to the truck and larger tires. If 5.29s were available I think I'd be looking for a set.
