Well they look cool all in a group like that. So can you wheel just about anywhere up there? Is it mainly public land?

no worries, glad to help out. You guys give me ideas ALL THE TIME (now I just need the money to start working on them :D)

Sean, you will actually get a laugh out of this but a few guys up here have painted their trucks white to join the club, lol. Of the CT guys and gals I wheel with there are only 5 white trucks (4 2nd Gens, 1 first Gen) and everyone has a different configuration so its interesting to see where one excels over others.

At this point, I would have been happier with a white truck - it's like scratch camo!!!

It is mainly public land, but there are different zones for different type of access. We have SRD (Sustainable Resources and Develop) up here which controls, monitors and tickets people who violate or damage the areas. We are actually in a bit of a crisis due to all the major parties that occur in the areas (McLean Creek and Wiapourous as they are about 45 mins from Calgary) and SRD is threating on shutting them down, but there are groups like CT4WD and the Land Cruiser association working on keeping them open.

There are quite a few National Parks to the west of us that are 100% off limits to OHV, but when you get out to BC (the next province over) there are lots of old mining areas, forestry areas, and tons of crown (government) land that is explorable.

Yeah, I love white cause it doesn't show the scratches or body damage as bad as the other colors. But the more I look at the chrome on my truck the more I hate it on the white.... I think some painting is in the near future....

I think there's a political movement in Kalifornia trying to make all of our wheeling land, "Crown Land." As my Chinese friend says, "I don't know who these crowns are that try to shut down all of the fun spots!!!" :)

Well at least you have 'some' public land. Texas is great, but no public land (well a very small area).

but from what I am hearing you guys have more specific "parks" for wheeling, that are designed for many different levels of trucks and skill levels. I think that is a great concept, how does it work in actuality?

You pay some dude money to go drive on his ranch that may or may not have well marked trails. There are a few that have a pretty good navigate-able trail system.

So far, the best situation I've seen was in CO where there are good public trails, not just some logging roads or open land to go drive around on.

x2 with what Andrew said. Someone who owns the land allows people to come drive on it for a fee (or not). I think the best one around here is Hidden Falls, they have dumped some $$ into the place lately. Even giving you a key card (like a hotel) if you stay the night and need to get out. http://www.hiddenfallsadventurepark.com/
