BTW, I packed a snub 357 in backwoods CA for years. You are allowed to carry them in Nat Forest land last I knew. Where were you?

oh ya for sure. They are much more agile and quieter. Bears have the don;t give a fuck attitude so they just come at you. mountain lions stalk their prey. Im hopin everyone on the trip can use an ak so I don't have to worry If I start getting mauled .

Around here, the experienced outdoorsmen worry more about the mountain lion than the black bear.

That's me! The ONLY time they would worry me is if I was trapped between mommy and baby.

Unfortunately that trail is not far from gang neighborhoods of east LA. Man with a gun calls are taken very seriously. Kern county I bring heat. Here I play it a bit more adventurously.

Yeah, i spent the most time in the san berdoo mtns, gorgonio (idyllwild area), and the sierra nevadas in the mammoth/bridgeport, tahoe areas

Just heard back from the trail ranger in that area. We're going to meet. He's going to give me some cans of paint for camo of the tagging, talk about some strategy about a trash can someone has placed 5 miles up the trail (remove to keep assholes from dumping trash there) and give me a badge!!! Okay, I'm just kidding about the badge!!!
