That's Mr Asshole to you
Thanks for posting those pics over here. I actually saved 2 pics from TW last week when I sent them to my coworker. She is off this week so it will be Monday before I find out if her husband can help build the bumper.

Here are some pics of my new one. I had to cut out the bed sides for this one. The siade plates have beams going in to the frame. I still have to cut the fender flares and put them back on.

Greg can you get a shackle on those mounts? Looks tight! :)

But the bumper looks great!

Nice catch, Sean!
Due to a 1/4" mis-measurement, I can't put my big 13,000 lb shackles on there so I down sized to a 9,000 lb shackle that fits fine. If I wanted to get the big boys on, I'd either have to grind the shackle mount holes out a bit or cut some clearance holes in the skin next to the shackle mounts. Holes in the skin would be ugly but wouldn't weaken it because the shackle mounts go all the way back and are bolted to the frame. Grinding the shackle mount holes out a bit would work fine because I left plenty of meat out there but it would take forever with the die grinder. In the end, I figured the 9,000 lb shackles would be fine .
What do you think?

Yeah, those are 7/8" pin right? Those should be plenty. That 9000 is the load limit, but they have a 40-50,000 actual limit. Probably tear the bumper off the frame before they failed.

Yeah, that was my thinking. The 9,000 lbs is a working load limit. The breaking point is WAY higher than that. Considering the truck itself only weighs, what like 5500 or something?

Another thing to consider is what I noticed, and you kinda mentioned, in making the bumper. People always talk about the tremendous strength that is desirable in a bumper. Yeah that's all fine and dandy but my "bomb proof" bumper is mounted to a measly 4"x2"x1/8" channel (open box)frame.

I'm certain I would rip the whole damn thing off the frame before the shackle failed.
