Never wheeled there.. but I visited Carlsbad probably 4 or 5 times when I lived in Alamogordo NM. Be sure to check out the caverns, hike down.. don't take the elevator. Its neat.

I've been looking at the big bend State park, I know some here have been there. Does it have good trails or is mostly just for camping?

BB Ranch State Park is great. I've been there twice this year. Camping is awesome, little to no amenities at the sites. Trails are nice as well. Nothing too hard.

I'm considering either site now, I'm not planning on camping. I just want a few trails. This place in New Mexico quite big according to the website

Sounds like the place in NM is more of an OHV place than a real park. On the flipside the BBRSP is more of a park that just happens to have some rough trails. If you are camping I'd do BBRSP.. but if its just wheeling then go to NM.

Plus you'll want more than one day to spend at BB area. Its just too big. Hell it takes an hour just to get from the hard road to the ranger station.

So I've been looking at Bb and at the Hackberry Lake. I think I'm gonna go to BB and spend the night there. The park in Hackberry is all sand dunes and Atv trails. I don't find sand dunes that interesting so big bend will do this weekend.

Ooops that didn't come out right... I was saying that 'cause Morning Glory may be considered far by some. :)

I think any of those trail systems would be fun, granted some might be a bit boring trail wise but I'm sure the scenery out there more than makes up for it.

Thanks for the tip Sean. Which trails would you recommend?

Also if I plan on going Friday night and staying there over night in my truck no tent or anything do I need any permit or anything?

Are you ever going to PM me your address or should I sell those skid plate mounts on Tardworld? lol

There is a few spots right as you come into the park that would be good for camping if you get there late. There is an out house as well.

Check out this link for some ideas about the park. I would stop by the ranger station and get a map and check in. They seemed to want to be aware of who is in the park incase you go missing or something like that.

The link does not work from our trip out there. Give me a min and I will try to dig up some trail names.

Well take a trip out to Gualle II its a good hour drive for some great scenery. Also the Javalina trail is cool. It leads back to Gualle I, take a left and its to Gualle I or II or take a right back to the main road. But just bring spare gas, water, food and cold weather gear. It gets cold at night and there is NO cell reception. As Roger mentioned we have yet to tackle the panhandle area which is supposed to be pretty tough... granted they said the same about the Javaline trail. I put it in 4WD just to eliminate wear on the rear tires only. Its a cool trail. Took the wife and daughter on it about a month ago.

So easy a 3 year old can do it!

As Aaron (AA-Ron) mentioned there is a late arrival campsite just after you enter the main gates (the big "Big Bend Ranch" sign). It has a shitter but no shower... another 22 miles to the shower.
