Cleaning House

So I finally got around to cleaning up the wiring and battery post issues. I started off by taking care of the issues I had with the battery, being its a Red Top with the posts located up front not the rear. When I dropped it in the OE wiring was to short, so I stretched it as far as it go. In order for the OE length to reach I had to lose the Red Tops height block. This turned out to make the OE hold down all thread to tall. I used a socket for a spacer (Ghetto fab) I know:p. This stayed like this for two years and I don't know how the battery remained on the tray?
Well, I thought I would just go ahead and replace just about everything. I purchased a bunch of new 1/0, a distribution block, ring terminals, and various other supplies to begin. Anyway, everything turned out pretty good for the first phase of the cleanup. I added the distribution block to accommodate the feed for the amp, and the compressor. This first go were the battery terminals, distribution block, and upgrading the chassis ground. I still need to cut down the new all thread and braid some of the smaller wiring. One note just by sizing up the ground it brought my idle volts from around 13.6v to 14.1v, so I will be replacing the other big 2 later.
Now for a couple O` pics of whats done so far.

I need a link to the distribution blocks on top of your battery post.

Looks Damn good Chad, those blocks are what I need to clean up my battery connections. Looks like a rats nest even after I half ass cleans my wiring up last weekend.

Thanks! While Is was in there I did the first engine bay cleaning in 100k.:o Looks a lot nicer. Now if I can only find a spot to mount the compressor, not much room left.

Yeah they don't leave us much room under the hood for goodies.

I'm running a Red Top on my older 01 Tacoma and ran into the same problem with the positive harness being too short. I ended up having to loosen the main harness lead from the bottom and it made for a snug fit. Your setup looks CLEAN!

Maybe.. I have a red top in the garage that was manufactured on 12/08 and its dead. Less than 3 years old.

I've had three Red Tops die. The only reason I have the dead one in the garage is that it came in the 85 4Runner. As soon as I get my other rig I'll be putting a Platinum in it, same as the Taco.

What do you end up paying for those Platinum's? When I pop in a 2nd bat I may change brands. I was thinking of just going with yellow tops as they seem to get better reviews than the reds. The 2nd reason going this rout would be space the group 34/37 are just about the right size to go side by side.

And by the way if I was to buy another winch (this is MY 4th POS shitty built winch - all from warranty coverage but what shit) I would buy a Superwinch.

Especially now that I have this

I paid about $200 a piece, but I think they have gone up a little. I have one up front and one in the toolbox. Yellow Tops are probably a better unit than the Red's, but I'll never give Optima my money again. Too much hype and not enough performance. The gray Platinums have a 4 year replacement warranty and then another 100 month pro-rated replacement. But a warranty is only a piece of mind if the battery dies when you are at home and not out in the middle of no-where. I hope I never have to use it. :)
