I paid about $200 a piece, but I think they have gone up a little. I have one up front and one in the toolbox. Yellow Tops are probably a better unit than the Red's, but I'll never give Optima my money again. Too much hype and not enough performance. The gray Platinums have a 4 year replacement warranty and then another 100 month pro-rated replacement. But a warranty is only a piece of mind if the battery dies when you are at home and not out in the middle of no-where. I hope I never have to use it.![]()
And by the way if I was to buy another winch (this is MY 4th POS shitty built winch - all from warranty coverage but what shit) I would buy a Superwinch
Warn M8000 w/ synthetic line. Solid performer, not too $$, and its not exactly slow. If you want a little more power then I'd probably save for a Warn 9.5XP(about 3x as much as the M8000) or an XD9000(about 2x as much as an M8000). Warn has a factory store and sometimes they have refurbished units for about 50% off the list price. Around here an 8000lb winch on a Taco is about right. Since I'm not into mud and like to avoid it, therefor pulling myself out usually isn't involving a truck that is stuck to the frame rails I think 8k is fine. I can always use a snatch block and double it up, but it hasn't been needed yet. But if you see your share of mud then you'll want more.
Smittybilts lifetime warranty is great, but I'd rather not have to use it. It's nice that they have replaced Pauls as many times as they have. I bet he'd really just like them to give him his money back though.

Not for "self" recovery anyway![]()
LOL.. true!
yeah! You know when we rigged that snatch block, we should have rigged a second one to your rig and then back to randy's. As it was we where only utilizing a single line pull... so 8k pounds. But you were pretty damn stuck.. not to mention the spot you where stuck in was not a good spot to be in. Hell you damn near couldn't walk down to your rig to attach the winch line. This photo does not do it justice... it fails to show the 60 feet of 60 degree incline behind you... and the sand that is below your tires that are just digging in... or the 10' wide area we have to recover you onto up top.

Times like that 'make a run' ... as long as your not the stuck one!!!![]()
