Idk. I have one of the first generation ones in the bedroom and one of the newest ones in the living room. Never had a problem out of either. But the first gen is considerably slower than the new one. To the point it's frustrating to use.

I have the first gen Fire TV in the garage and it works great. No need for a new one but I really like the one I have.

The latest generation of the stick seems to do better about not overheating if in a well ventilated area. My TV is not mounted to the wall and has about 6" between it and the wall. Believe me when I saw this - for an IT guy I have a very low tech house. One 42" TV, no surround sound, and last year I finally bought a sound bar. My XBox finally died so it is going to Staples for e-recycle sometime this weekend.

There is a very good reason I stay in your garage when I come visit.
Mmmmm just called ATT/ DirecTV to terminate my account. It is amazing how fast they offer to cut your bill in half if you stay. But I stayed true to the course and cut them off. So I have the Fire Stick, Sling TV Blue package, and Amazon Prime channels. My monthly TV costs were $125; and are now $25.
Heck yeah.
Also my sammich maker does like the Sling TV options and shows. She likes saving money.

I expect the same thing when I cancel. Told my dishwasher today that we need to cancel it so we are forced to use Netflix, Amazon and Sling. Told her that if it didnt work out we can get DirecTV again and would be a "new" customer so our bill should be cheaper.
Just have your dishwasher talk to my sammich maker. She already found all her channels on Sling and likes the layout.
Yeah the 4k option was why I got my new Fire box for my new Samsung TV...well that and the fact that I needed the original fire box for my garage TV.
But let me put it this way, the fire stick is like a BMW 3 series...it's nice and gets the job done... whereas the fire box is a BMW 7 series, way faster and better overall experience.
But I'm jaded in that I only have an hour or so a night to watch something so I don't want to wait to load a show.
