So you're saying there's a chance!
So after some research, I found this trailer isn't a M416 after-all... It's an M100. A very similar tub design, but older and originally designed to go behind the Willys M38. That's why it has the round fenders instead of the cool flat ones. Also, I found last night that it means that the tub is welded to the frame, making restoration that much more difficult. Someone has previously filled rust holes throughout the tub with body filler and I have yet to get is all sanded down, but it still seems strong so I am going to try to keep it as original as possible. There is nothing really pic worthy happening yet, so bear with me.

So its time to finally start working on the M416 trailer.

Backstory: This trailer was sitting in my brother's driveway, full of crap, when I moved down from PA. I inquired about it & got it at a steal at $160 with a hitch mounted charcoal grill thrown in for free. Since then, other projects have backburnered this one but I have some time to get it started now...

For historical reference, I'll update this only post as I make progress.

What I envision as the end product:
1. Waterproof lid, hinged with struts
2. RTT
3. External storage boxes
4. Full size matched spare
5. Attachable table
6. fuel & water jerry can(s)
7. 6x5.5 hubs (new axles?)
8. Heavy duty springs (lift)
9. Stabilizer legs
10. LED lighting (solar battery charging?)
11. Removable kayak mount

What it needs to get started:
1. Strip old paint/sandblast
2. Repair any rust spots

11/5/2011 While starting the spring over axle flip today, I discovered more rust on the sides of the original trailer tub. My solution will be to remove the sides, frame out new sides, and attach these boxes I got for a song at a local surplus yard ($150). They'll add lockable storage to the rig...
(Note: There's a bit of an illusion to height here. You can't see that the trailer is on jackstands...

LOL... all of the flaky rust on his leaf springs were gone after running it through Engineer Pass...

I think ANY loose ANYTHING came off of it after Mineral Creek... Thanks Rich for taking that case of water. LOL. All in all, I think it did very well. I had to re-secure my load shortly after getting on the trail and it was "interesting" to see it bouncing all over in the rear-view mirror. I learned a few things I would like to do differently as well; extend the tongue a bit, new 3500# axle with hubs that match the Jeep, some sort of cover to keep all of my crap clean and dry. If it weren't for a tarp that Lyndall loaned me, we would have almost had our own bathtub in camp with all the rain.
