For all Tacoma guys that has had drive shaft issues

And for those of you who've never filmed your truck in the act....this is what it looks like. It's way more severe than you'd think.

It does move around quite a bit, glad you didn't run over that guy snooping around under your truck before you took off.

I think the trucks that have the most problems should probably convert to 1 piece TW or custom made one. Its not that great of design, but then again, most of the vibs start after suspension modifications also

I had someone coming in on Sunday to replace ujoints and center bearing on their driveshaft. I referred this to them only after they had bought the parts, but Toyota is supposedly going to gook them up. Thanks for the heads up on this.

I had vibes from the night I drove my brand new Tacoma off the dealer lot...Thought it was normal and it was never as bad as some guys cry about.

Edit: Thought the vibes were normal because my vehicle before the Tacoma was a 2003 Ford Ranger that rattled and vibrated at every speed. POS truck

I just do my best to move through the harmonic

Mine didn't always do it. It really only started when I went to the Icon/Dakar setup. I suspect it was due to the increased lift and angles. Either way, I drove it that way for an entire year just absolutely terrified of hitting the gas from a stand still. I would roll out slow, get passed the harmonic speed, and then speed up as normal. Also didn't have tweeters installed in the truck that year. Worst year ever.

Here's an interesting development.....I finally got around to calling my friend that's a service tech at a local dealership. Told him about how another dealership had straight up lied to me about needing my transmission replaced to fix the vibration issue and how I ended up just building my own drive shaft out of my OEM one to fix the issue.

He's like, "Well since you already solved the problem you want me to just put a shaft on order for this warranty work? Then you'll have a spare. Oh, and you never claimed your warranty leaf springs either. I can get you those too."

Needless to say, very excited. Having a spare free drive shaft is nearly top of my list when it comes to things I should bring with me on long offroad trips. :D

I remember some guy on TW injecting the CB with silicon to stiffen it up and claiming that fixed his vibration issues.

Mine started when I put in an AAL. Mostly went away when I put in the Dakar pack. I still get it slightly, but not terribly. No issuess before lift, or at least not noticeable....I do, however, recall having what the TW'ers called axle wrap before the lift though. Come to a stop and hear a "thunk" after you had already come to a complete stop. So maybe I did have issues from the get-go.

I wonder if they will do the fix for lifted tacomas?

Already had the local stealership take care of the leafs. They were more than happy to do the leafs but denied the Tacoma for the air bag recall. That still pisses me off.

I have had the axle wrap issue since about a year after I purchased the truck. I do not believe it has been as noticeable since the new leaf pack was installed though. I am running Firestone air bags on the rear axle if that makes a difference.

Didn't realize there was an airbag recall. May have to look into that. I don't think my friend mentioned that to me.

According to my local dealer it only applies to some Tacomas but not all. They could not tell me what the deciding factor was though.

OEM pack or aftermarket? I haven't noticed it since putting on the Dakars...I figured that fixed it. I'd like to run air bags, but not sure what would be involved with a non-factory leaf pack and u-bolt flip kit....

I believe all the data about what parts were used in production is tied to the VIN. If you got the bad airbag, you're on the list. If not, you aint.

FWIW I used to have Firestone bags on mine before I lifted it. I used to have a 23' travel trailer and they helped out alot. Anyhow when I went with the Dakars (with the extra leaf) I never needed the bags. Plus as you mentioned I also have the flip kit and didn't want to mess with fabricating a new bracket for them. Never had an issue towing.

The silicone worked great, for a little while, until the rubber started drying out and shriveling. Started using roofing urethane, worked much better to stiffen the bushing and haven't noticed that the rubber bushing is drying out, or at least not as quickly.

Can you post which roofing urethane you used specifically?

It probably not gonna matter a hill of beans for vibration, but I spray lithium grease on mine at every oil change, I replaced mine with over 100K on it, zero rot or cracks on the rubber

I want to know what the new recall will do.
