Ok Im getting a locker in a couple weeks...So I was wondering if I should get get a rear locker or a front locker. Most of ya'll know What I have, '82 yota with no bed. I was watching xtream 4x4 and on the toyota project got me question my project. They are putting a mech. locker in the front and a spool in the rear. So from all of ya'lls offroading experiance would a front locker work better for me right now?

also, is a rear locker on the 8" 30 spline work on the front?

well I cant affor both lockers as of right now...until I get my new job at the plant. But Broker told me to do Front first so I was makin sure the locker I put int the link would work on the front. Eventually I'll get both locked in, But this is a real budget build I mean Some gettho rigged shit....LOL As long as is performs Im good with it.

Then lock the front and weld the rear, but just weld the spider gears so that it can be removed later if need be.

I am going out on a limb here - although I have blown 2 rears...

You could go with the front - as has been mentioned, you have the majority of the weight up there. Another weigh (pun intended) to look at it is if you are pointed upward, you will have more weight on the rear than you would in a level position...

I'm IFS and I love being able to turn my front on without my rear to 'pull my truck around' - I am one of the lucky ones that haven't blown a cv (yet :)).

Either way, you will find it a great tool!

I was also thinkin about weldin the rear spider gears, I just wanted to make sure it'll work first...BUT my main question is would the locker in the link (8"30spline) locker work in the front before I buy...

So it the front the same as the back???

Sorry im leaning as much as I can.

Yes that is the correct part# for the front, but I would suggest you call ECGS before you order just to confirm.

If you decide to do the front first. (which I would do) Go buy two HUGE buckets of lube, a ton of rags and 4 or 5 cans of brake cleaner. Its a GIANT mess. I shit you not, I bet I went through at least 4 pounds of lube rebuilding my knuckles. Each side holds at least 2 tubs. Not to mention you have to clean all the old shit out. I wiped mine as clean as I could get them and then used a pressure washer. Its nasty enough to make a guy think about buying Longfields just so he never has to do it again.

Yeah but they have their own problems... granted, its not nearly as messy! I'd love a big huge set of CTM's in some billet C's.
