KML / KMZ file attachments

You can now attach a KML / KMZ file for a trip or park directly to the thread. To attach the file you upload it like a picture file and then click to post reply. Once it is posted to the thread other members can click on the file to download it to their computer/ device.

Nice, even though I need to learn more about all this....

I mostly work with kmz files that show borders of maps and mil ranges. I asked our professional geographers awhile back at work and they said 98% of the time they use Arcgis. One of the guys that used to be there knew kml/kmz very well.

If there happens to be a sun solar flare or coronal mass ejection for you science nerds, I will always have detailed topography paper maps with me.

I still like to carry the paper maps; but it is amazingly nice to map out the route on my laptop using Google Earth. Then I can save the file, export it to my tablet, and use it for navigation on the trail.

I hear you, I need to learn to do this.

I am going to try to do a basic and then slightly advanced write up on using Google Earth and then using the file to a tablet/ mobile device for trail nav.
