Lincoln National Forest trip - May 27 - 30, 2021

No Monday for me. Holidays pay too good to not work them. But I realize I'm the odd one out.

I may be out. Kids 5th grade graduation party is that weekend. My mom is flying in. Kid has missed the last two years of last day due to either us taking her out for a cruise or ChinaVirus. So she is looking forward to this year. Haven’t made up my mind yet.

I'm game either way; but will probably head up to @tex 's house at lunch time to cut the first hour off my drive and work the rest of my day from there. I am trying to research the lower forest area for trails also since that section is 5 hours from DFW instead of 7-8 hours.

I think I’ll be in. I’ll be in Alaska for the first 2.5 weeks of May, but I’ll put in some no flys for this weekend!

I'm off Thursday-Sunday. That's when I'll be there. I'll solo the first night if I need to and then just cut out Sunday morning. I have to work Monday.

Plans are still fluid for me till next week when I get some more confirmation on a few things. What is your availability on the dates?

I will know my dates better closer to May. I had a call at work yesterday that may be putting a lot of wheels in motion for me; but will have a better idea then.

I submitted vacation request for the days of the 28, 29, and 30 with hopes that I can pad it with a regular day off for the 27 and 31. I can make adjustments as necessary, but better to get the request in ahead of time.

I just noticed that the OP has comm capabilities listed. I have every intention of getting a GMRS radio before this trip. They happen to be on back order right now and not scheduled to be back in stock until mid April according to Midland.

If I can’t get a mobile then sure, but I’d prefer to have something mounted in the truck. Nothing is more frustrating than mediocre comms....hence why I have an 8’ whip for the CB

Completely agree but I keep a set of the cheap Midland handhelds around for loaning out and trail spotting also.

I actually have some Cobra FRS/GMRS handhelds but you can’t plug in the charger cord and use them at the same time because then it thinks a headset is plugged in...they’re pretty old.

Ok so here is where I am at with availability. I am good to leave after work Thursday the 28th since I dont have to take my son to school on Friday.
I am open to a few options on leaving. Thursday night puts setting up camp in the dark, and fighting traffic to get out of town. Most appealing to me is leave super early Friday around 4 or 5am, and get a few miles down some trails to have lunch.
