You and me both. Had an appointment with the eye doctor today. Metal was imbedded in my cornea. Doc used a low speed dremmel type tool to take it out.

Needless to say I ordered a fancy face shield today so I don't have to hear I told you so from the wife anymore. At least all the heavy grinding and cutting is finished for now.

The wife saying "I told you so" of course. lol.

Jk. Eyeballs sorta freak me out. I work with a guy who has a gray eyeball. Today he told me how it happened. When he was 6 years old he was running around and fell into a basket full of knitting stuff... Including the foot long needles. Yeah... Into the eye it went. Ughhhh

Belive me there will always be double eye protection utilized in my garage from now on. The worst part of today was when the doctor said there was a rust ring around the piece of metal. That was the turning point for me.

Finished up the rear lights and threw the tray on to see how I want to lay out the bed. I think eventually I want to elevate the spare above the bed with clearance to my totes and ice chest.

Im going have to get creative mounting the toolbox. Started mocking that up tonight. Also got the fuel filler neck lined out. The bed is about 99 percent painted too. Also finished smoothing out the bed mounts with the plasma I borrowed. Picked up a piece of 3/16 plate for the bed when I eventually scrap the aluminum.

What are the laws regarding where you mount the rear licence plate?

Dont take my word for it but as long as the liscense plate is at eye level ( within reason) and has a light I say you are good to go.

Looks like the only thing up for interpretation is "front and rear of the vehicle"

From the DOT regs:

§ 502.404. OPERATION OF VEHICLE WITHOUT LICENSE PLATE OR
REGISTRATION INSIGNIA. (a) A person commits an offense if the
person operates on a public highway during a registration period a
passenger car or commercial motor vehicle that does not display two
license plates, at the front and rear of the vehicle, that have
been:
(1) assigned by the department for the period; or
(2) validated by a registration insignia issued by the
department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the
period.
(b) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a
public highway during a registration period a passenger car or
commercial motor vehicle, other than a vehicle assigned license
plates for the registration period, that does not properly display
the registration insignia issued by the department that establishes
that the license plates have been validated for the period.
(c) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a
public highway during a registration period a road tractor,
motorcycle, trailer, or semitrailer that does not display a license
plate, attached to the rear of the vehicle, that has been:
(1) assigned by the department for the period; or
(2) validated by a registration insignia issued by the
department that establishes that the vehicle is registered for the
period.
(d) Subsections (a) and (b) do not apply to a dealer
operating a vehicle as provided by law.
(e) An offense under this section is a misdemeanor
punishable by a fine not to exceed $200.

Going to cut down the front bumpstops tonight since they are about 3 inches too long. Hopefully I can stuff the front tires a little better.

Checking into TxDOT's website some more...

(2) Unless otherwise prescribed by law, each vehicle registered under this subchapter:
(A) must display two license plates, one at the exterior front and one at the exterior rear of the vehicle that are securely fastened at the exterior front and rear of the vehicle in a horizontal position of not less than 12 inches from the ground, measuring from the bottom, except that a vehicle described by Transportation Code, §621.2061 may place the rear plate so that it is clearly visible; or
(B) must display one plate that is securely fastened at or as close as practical to the exterior rear of the vehicle in a position not less than 12 inches from the ground, measuring from the bottom if the vehicle is a road tractor, motorcycle, trailer or semitrailer.

Source: Texas Administrative Code

It would seem as close to the rear as possible and more than 12" off the ground. Transportation Code §621.2061 pertains to trailers.

it's up to the cop, I see lots of wreckers with them mounted on the rack in back window.

Put it on a piano hinge so that it folds up "easily" on the trails.

Still may do that. I got tired of dicking with the tool box mounting and started the install of my Corbeau Baja SS seats that I have been looking at for over a year. Started to fab up some mounting brackets that would bolt into the stock locations. Here is where I ended up after last night. I have to admit I doo some pretty good fabrication after a 5 or 6 beers.

Got the driver side mount painted last night and should have it in my this evening after I finish this GD defensive driving course.

I used the Chassis Unlimited billet sliders on the driver side for some adjustability. May pick up another set for the passenger side in the future. Waiting on some tabs to mount the passenger seat.

Bed, bed lights, license plate and tool box are mounted. I also added 6 tie downs to the edges of the bed. Just need to clean up some wiring and get my harness bar installed and the red truck should be ready to go.

License plate is low but removable. I may change it up later but it makes me street legal now.
