Thanks Sean. How's the Runner coming along?

SLOW... I haven't done anything lately because I'm debating on going linked suspension vs. new leafs. Plus I'm waiting to see how much I'll owe Uncle Sam in taxes. :/ I might take it to Long Ranch this weekend for a small shake-down run. Working on a borrowing a trailer at the moment.

Got to wheel the red truck on its maiden shakedown at the TX Lonestar Jamboree the weekend of Jan 13-15th.

The truck did well overall for the most part.

Here are some pics

Nothing like breaking 14 of the ring gear teeth

Good friends and spare parts made the weekend a blast even though the weather was crap

Randy thanks for the help turning wrenches.

You might be banned from riding shotgun the red truck as well since you are so prone to blowing up rear ends

The truck looked great on the trails. Too bad it broke, but I am sure it will be much stronger next time.

Yea I seem to have that effect on vehicles.

So, any idea why it broke? I've read that the hi pinion gear sets are a little weaker.

Got a plan to keep it from happening again? Cryo treatment?

You didn't see how it got broken, lots of bouncing and lots of skinny pedal, would have torn up anything. For reference it's not a HP unit it was a V6 unit.

The rear is a V-6. The only thing that might have contributed to the breakage was what amount of backlash the 3rd was set up at. Gonna set them a little tighter this next time around. Luckily the gears have warranty through Davez offroad. I am getting th old ones pulled and sent out this week. Just have to pay shipping. Not a bad deal.

Like Randy said, skinny pedal and the bind I was in woulda shreaded just about any Toy axle. No more hard shifts from 1st to 2nd with the 4.7s engauged :) with Randy in the vehicle :) JK

There are a couple things I need to address after this trip:

-need new windshield wipers
-need to reseal the windshield
-get my winch working
-cut down my front driveshaft on the axle side to reduce bottoming out on compression
-get the fuel gauge working and a find a larger fuel tank

Did you do custom driveshafts or just go square tubing up front?

I built the front with the TG long spline kit. I didnt measure before it got welded up so there is not enough slip showing to compensate for uptravel of the axle

Cant believe I just saw this. Funny stuff.

Well I bit the bullet and bought a house. The best this is that I will have a 2 1/2 car garage to finish up all my little projects in. Just gotta start moving tools up from my parents over the next month or so.

After wheeling at Gilmer, these mods are at the top of my list:

I need a hand throttle - found one on Quadratec and ordered it
My brakes are shit - going to upgrade to the FJ60 vented rotors and IFS calipers
Still need to chop down my front DS a little. This week hopefully

Need to finish installing all the other crap that hasnt got on the truck yet or is incomplete including:

install my grant steering wheel
fix my horn since it doesnt work
extend both axle breathers (thanks Rob)
get some juice to my winch so its actually usable
install my rock lights

After all of that I will concentrate on getting my duals set up with a bunch of Marlin Crawler goodies:

MC07-R10 rotated dual adapter
Twin sticks
30 spline chromoly front output shaft upgrade
30 spline chromoly rear output shaft upgrade
