Kiss My IFS
I know that this is not a motorcycle forum but I do want to share my experience in Sturgis South Dakota. I was approached about going on this trip in January by 2 guys that I have been friends with since I was a teenager, both really great dudes that are considered family, both about 10 years older than me. We all agreed to trailer the bikes and stay in an exorbitantly over priced hotel. Rooms were very hard to find and extremely expensive during rally week. We stayed at an Americas Best Value Inn in Rapid City, about 25 miles from Sturgis, for just under $300 per night! Talk about price gouging, any other time of year this is a $80 night Hotel.
Going into this I was really unsure of what to expect & It seems as though people I spoke to about it all had the same idea in mind. The perception was that it was going to be a very wild Harley exclusive biker trash party but my experience proved that this is completely not true. I admit that I was worried about being the "that guy" riding the Yamaha at first but once I got there I realized that this was not just a Harley thing. While I would say that 80% of the motorcycles were in fact HD, every brand and style was well represented. There we people on 3 wheeled Cam-Am spiders, Moped, dirt bikes, crotch rockets and everything else in between. I did get several comments about the Yamaha but they were all positive. Here are a few pics to keep you interested.
My ride is a 2009 Yamaha V-star 1100.
Coming into town
Main street. It went on like this for miles. Yes parking your bike in the city of Sturgis was a nightmare
As far as this being a wild ass party I can say that it's true. There is plenty of partying to be done if thats your thing but we didn't drive 1300 miles to get drunk and look at titties, Could have done that at the local strip club. The total number of baron boobs I saw on this trip is ZERO. There are lots of bars with pretty girls too look at and of course we did indulge some but anyplace with a liquor licence also has a very strict policy against nudity and leaving with open containers of alcohol. Walking down main street there are tons of police officers regulating these things as well. All of the really wild partying goes on at the camp grounds because they are all private property and BYOB, no cops, everything goes. If you are looking for trouble then the camp grounds are the place to be, if not then they are very easy to avoid. We chose not venture into them, but did get close enough to say that there is no way in hell I would consider staying in one. Ill take my over priced hotel any day. What you did see around town was shirtless women with pasties on (nipple covers) and ladies that were painted. A few examples.
Air brushing in progress.
