New 4runner from TX

hey guys I have known about this forum for awhile and I had been lurking on Tacomaworld.com for a long time since I was planning on buying a tacoma but situations changed and now I have ended up with a 98 Anthracite 4runner Limited 4x4! just picked her up from Austin yesterday for $5500. Hope you guys can roll with a stock (for now) 4runner on this tacoma forum

3rd Gen runner! Sweet.. Now there is two.

I have one of those too... Mine is a Limited 97 4x4, ordered a Lift and Slliders.. should be in this month sometime so I can install them. What are your plans for Mods?

GET RID OF THE RUNNING BOARDS, AND DO THE TRANNY COOLER MOD ASAP!

well all I have have done since Ive gotten it is removing the bug guards and installed a CB radio. I have a new stereo in the mail. 3 inch lift is going to happen in the future once I scrounge up enough money. I'm still trying to convince my mom to let me take off the running boards but she wants them on :/.

is there a write up on the tranny cooler mod?

A lot of older 3rd gen runners get a leak with the Tranny cooler going throught the stock radiator. Water gets into the Transmission and destroys it. You will find threads all over YotaTech and T4R talking about it. Just buy a 50$ after market cooler from you local AutoParts place and install it. It's easy..

Getting rid of the running boards make a big difference.

So I'm at the beach all this week and I was driving around in the deep soft sand in 4hi and I start to bog down and then in the dash next to the 4x4 light I see a light that says "RR diff lock". I don't have a diff lock button on my 4runner so I'm not sure if I have a locker? Any help?

I'm a little confused by your post. If the button is there then you have it if not, then you don't. I found when I was looking at 4Runners a few months ago that the locker was a very common thing in the Limiteds. Not all of them have them but it seemed like the majority of them did.

All of the dashes are the same, so the light is there for the diff lock even if you don't have it.

Well I definitely don't have the button but why would the light come on while I'm bogging down in sand in 4wd? I'm confused too
