The Jeep belongs to a buddy of mine named Ron. Yeah, I know, he owns a Heep, yaddah, yaddah, yaddah. He is an awesome guy and can wheel his fucking ass off. I consider myself an experienced wheeler with a capable rig. He and his rig take obstacles I struggle with, or can't make it up at all, and walk up them with embarrassing ease. You guys laugh all you want. Ron can get after it!

So anyway, I'll organize this trip again in July if anyone is interested. It will largely be the same as last time. "Moabesque" sandstone day 1 here in The Glade followed by a few days in the mountains. I'll mix it up a little but I like to offer the visitors the local "best" and "favorites". There's just only so many of those. A lot of other great spots to check out but I feel obligated to offer the travelers the biggies.

The first gen 4 has a lot of potential but he was stock and unlocked. He had to use the skinny pedal excessively to make it through some tough situations and he damn near ended up on his lid more than once.

roflmao....its ok Bird,we know Jeeps can hang but I bet your buddy could wheel the shit out of a yota too. The driver is the main reason for wheeling success imo.

Its funny you say that. I wasn't pissed at all but after I posted it, I read it back to myself and thought I sounded like a dick. Sorry.

I totally agree with you on the driver though. Graham, the Lexus in the pictures, had the biggest heaviest vehicle out there and I've watched him pull off ridiculous shit and hang with the buggies. He's got mad skills! He only has an OME lift and 33's! On the other hand, I recently wheeled with a guy who owns one of the baddest FJ's I've ever seen. He couldn't do jack crap. I had to talk him through shit a skilled 2wdriver could do.

It's all about driver skill, and the only way to get it is to get out and wheel you got to start green and work at it one trip at a time. Having good people with skills and similar trucks helps to.

I didn't know you were that green. I could tell you were kinda new. New guys always have the same look in their eye when you drive up something crazy and then tell them its their turn.

Aside from the deer in the headlights look, nope, you were a champ! You did amazingly well for a second timer. If I remember correctly, we never even put a strap on you. You have to come back for Frog Rock. It owns you. You need to fix that.

Yeah, I'll start a thread soon for it. It will again probably be a three, maybe four, day trip overlapping a weekend. It will almost definitely be either 7/23, 7/30, or 8/6. Last time I did it earlier in July. Some of the CO trails barely opened within 2 weeks of our trip because of a slow snow melt. We never got to do Poughkeepsie Gulch because it was still snowed in.

Snow is cool... well, to look at in pictures anyways. I showed Bianca the pics from the last trip, she is game.. :D Just gotta figure out what to do with the boys.. :D

I like snow too but this isn't a light, pretty dusting that I'm talking about. The roads are impassable and therefore closed by the forest department. All the pretty snow is gone in July. All that is left is the random huge patches of snow that block the road. They're typically caused by an earlier in the season avalanche that took 10 ft of snow off the hillside and ended up collecting to a 50 ft deep pile at the bottom. Put that pile on a north facing slope or at the bottom of a shaded canyon and that shit never melts. Eventually they just go through with tractors and clear it out.

If she's outdoorsy, the pictures say it all. If she enjoys a little luxury, the nearby towns of Durango, Ouray, Telluride, and Silverton are all full-blown tourist towns. The have fancy hotels, nice restaurants, hot springs, and trendy main street shopping. My friend brought his 5 year old daughter on the last trip. Bring the boys, unless of course you're looking for a kids free vacation.

I think that would be problem............Even when I'm just driving around town or on my motorcycle going to new places, I just can't seem to keep my eyes on the road ahead of me. I'd have to take in the sites, then wheel. But it's hard, just looking at these pictures, thinking that I would ever be able to look at these scenery enough to get over them. Still Jealous :)
