That is pretty much what I was thinking; they only screwed you some but not as hard as they could have. I have heard about quite a few people getting that "late donation" to the IRS this year.

I got audited too, luckily I do tax accounting and told them to go f***k themselves b/c I had backup for all the deductions they were claiming I couldn't receive. They're tricky bastards, they're hoping that the letter will just scare you into paying. They were trying to get me for almost $2k!
They wanted a lot more than a grand, but I documented it down to a lot less and paid what I couldn't document...

Nice, its good that you keep that stuff on file. Most people don't then get screwed when the IRS actually audit their return (2 years later).

Yeah, if it wasn't such a long drive, I would try to meet y'all for K trail. But, the cost of Gas + long ass drive in an un-vetted rig = no bueno

The trail near Clayton is private property on both sides so there is little to explore besides the trail. Plus there were some very shady camps along the way that I would assume just avoid. I think sticking to the national forest will be the most fun and it offers a lot of camping opportunities.
