It wouldn't be too hard to either drill or EDM that race. How thick is the housing? Will the threads for the fitting need to pass into the race? I also recomend disassembling the unit. Even an EDM will have slag.

The housing is about 1/2" thick.. but a normal bit can drill through 90% of it.. the threads only go in about 1/2 way through. Its the last 10% that are the hardened area.

Drill upside down with a magnetic bit?

Magnetic drill bit would have to be tool steel, meaning that it wouldn't be tough enough to drill through the race. If you plan on drilling it then it would have to be a carbide bit. Also you would have a hard time not breaking a carbide bit in a hand drill, carbide is very hard but very brittle. If it gets the slightest bit crocked it will break so IMO upside down wouldn't be possible. I would dissasemle. It shouldn't be too hard with a good press.

Good luck drilling upside down that race is one hard mofo. That and I haven't found just the bearings for sale any where yet just the entire assembly. And you can't press the bearings out of the assembly without destroying them. Stupid fucking design

a different (non sealed) bearing with same dimensions.

Only question that remain is how the individual bearing will like rolling past the hole we drill into the race and weather it will lead to bearing failure. I would think that the hole would be small enough to not cause a problem, but who really knows.

I think that is a very valid point. If you could use a non sealed bearing and not damage the race it would last much longer.

The bearings in there are flat, not balls. They 'should' roll past without any issues.

Also, the plan was to have the hole in the very center of the unit, not really in the path of the bearings.

My jerry can leaks.. ever so slightly. Its just moist around the neck and you can smell the vapors. But I imagine in the summer heat it will leak worse. Hmmm... Time for a new can.

Are you sure that you cannot replacve the seal around the cap? I have the same can, hope mine doesn't start leaking.

I didn't want to say anything but, it also isn't as easy to siphon in that position. I hear you on the low CG!

I have two of those cans. I might swap out the lid first. I just don't know where to find a seal. But I suppose its possible to just replace that.

Or just fill up to the point that it wouldn't spill.

True.. I figure I'd have to stand it up for that.
