LOL.. you might have a point there.
I think the kenwood piece is a HAM radio but I am on my phone ands it's not real easy to go back and look.
Its actually in a much better spot. Before it was about 1.5 inches from the steering wheel.. too close, my hand would touch it sometimes. The new position puts it down and to the left a bit more. But still very accessible and the gauges are even more visible.
As for the GPS, I just never go "hiking" to use it, so this is the first time its been in the truck. So I know how to use about 30% of what it does. I'm even more tarded when it comes to that new 2M radio.![]()
If you're having trouble finding folks to talk to, check out the ARRL Repeater Directory:

Also, wherever you took the license exam I bet there's club members who know what the local repeaters are that will have local activity. If not, you can always check out 146.520 which is the national 2M calling frequency.

I don't think it's a matter of someone to talk to, it's someone Sean wants to talk with!!!![]()
Thanks for the information. There is a monthly breakfast sponsored by the local HAM radio club; the woman at the HAM radio supply store told me anyhow. She said it was the place she directs all newbies. I might have to suck it up and go.![]()
, I understand. I've kinda realized that if I want to have folks to talk to, I gotta start getting friends to take the tech license test and get on the air. Cool that you got yours though. It's so much more capable than CB, and I constantly wonder why folks get wrapped up with taking a test to gain the functionality. That TM271 is a great radio. Keep an eye on heat if you transmit for long periods of time on the high output setting. They tend to run a little warm.
Thats good to know.. in its location there isn't much, if any, air flow.
Good idea Andy. I think I'll try that. I was hoping to let it sit in the sun.. but its overcast. LOL
