Exactly. The folks I've met who work there all seem laid back and like good people. They really seem to love what they do.
I screwed up at work. Corporate is doing a big PMP-Agile Training Day and sent out 250 invites to nominated people within the company. I jumped at the opportunity as they have a couple guest speakers and such. The schedule looks pretty interesting in the topics, how the company is looking to apply Agile more (been working on integrating it for a while now), and future options for PMs at the corporate level. Looking over the schedule I noticed the sessions are all on Paris time. Tomorrow is going to be a long day that starts at 1:30am for me. Oops.
That would be pretty sweet!

Just put in my 2 weeks at my current job, start the new one right after Turkey Day. Excited to be trying something new, hopefully I don’t screw anything up at the new place

Thanks, similar field but the job security, pay, and culture is better. I was in the nuclear electric generation side before, doing consulting work. My boss kept giving me bullshit PM type work such as forecasting and budgeting for these big corporate jobs. I told him I’m not a PM and have no desire to be, and if he continued to pile this crap onto my workload he will be seeing a letter on his desk sooner than later.
Well I guess he thought I was bluffing so fuck it, accepted a position in the electric transmission field as a senior transmission operator for PECO (Philadelphia electric company). The best part is they shorten my job title in outlook to “senior trans operator”

looks like I may have counted my chickens before they hatched. Since the company I’m transferring to is still a part of the main branch company the VP of my current department is trying to block my transfer. Looks like I’m going to have to fight tooth and nail and get HR involved to get this resolved. I hate working for ass hats like this.

That's happened to me twice in my career. The first time I had nothing else lined up, but I was young and stubborn. The second time, I had an unexpected job offer land the same time I was offered the position in another department. Both times, my manager said some BS about "you're too critical to operations. We can't lose you." Neither time were they willing to match the pay of the other job offer.
Both times, I told them that they had until X to sign the papers or they would have by letter of resignation. Both times, they called my bluff, and both times I presented a letter of resignation by the deadline.

Finally made official my new position. After the first of the year I'll be moving into electrical maintenance rather than mechanical. Mo' money and a lot less bullshit. the end goal isn't to be an electrician but this is a requirement for where I want to end up. And if I do get stuck here I won't mind one bit. Finally the schooling I did 5-6 years ago is paying off. Next month and a half will be full of trainings so I'm ready to go once I make the move. Glad it's finally happening because I was just about at the end of my patience with my current position.

Last weekend, down at the farm, I had a friend swing by, and he works in the oil industry, and his boss was there also and were out there drinking near a fire and he knows some of the things I've done on my place. His boss looks up at me while were BSing and out of the blue he said I was hired, and I told him I quit before this conversation begins. And of course he wanted to continue, and then I kindly said I really have no interest, he said give him a resume and starting pay at $60 hour, $75 to $90 hour at year 3.
Damn if that's not tempting, I just might have to tell him yes if I can get 9 to 12 weeks vacation out of the deal also.

Yeah it is just complete BS. This is the second time happening for me with the same position within the same company. First time it happened around June timeframe this year, I was told we needed to wait until September until the "hiring freeze" for external applicants is over. I saved all my emails and correspondences I had, as well as have a copy of the HR policy for maximum length they can hold you back for which is 1 year. I was at that one year since I started inquiring around November 2020, so fuck them. The only problem is the job I have now is so easy it would be a shame to threaten to quit and have to quit this stupid ass job if the deal to take the new one somehow fell through. I don't know the logistics of talking to the new hiring manager and telling him, I'm basically willing to leave the company only to come back as an external hire in a different part of the company. I'm not sure legally if he can allow that either so I need to tread lightly. Next spring, my company is supposed to split and separate the generation from transmission sides so this will all be a moot point if I wait. My main reason for wanting to transfer internally is to keep my seniority for vacation/sick time and make sure they don't screw with my salary because they could lowball me in the low end of the band if I come in externally.
One thing I have learned over the years is never be too good at your job. My boss uses the same excuse about me wanting to leave. "we will never be able to replace you", "your knowledge is so great in this field", "what can I do to make you stay", "I don't want to lose you"
I know that 3 things primarily motivate people in the work force: fear, money, and food. Working from home I don't get any food so that's off the table, and the money is the same for each job and I'm not really concerned about that I just want to do something different, learn new things, and further strengthen my resume. The job I have now I can do with my eyes closed, and I just get no satisfaction out of being bothered with it.

One thing I do know, is that if I need to wait until the company splits and apply externally, the department i'm in will get no "2 weeks notice". It'll be, I'm leaving tomorrow, pay me my vacation time out and adios ass clowns!

Well, I just got off a long conversation with my boss. Can't believe it but they are actually going to release me, end of January timeframe. Almost shit myself when he told me that, so I guess either HR caved or my boss put up a good fight for me
