It's fully remote, so no driving into the office. Ever.

As of right now, I'm planning to stay put. No sense in selling a good house just to buy an overpriced one and get a bigger monthly payment.

I had a "next options" talk with a director today. He was trying to talk me into a role on his team that has required monthly office hours. I explained to him that there was not enough money in his budget to convince me to move from Texas to the Philly area. But if he can make that role 100% remote with travel as needed we could talk.

remember to factor in city wage tax if your base location will be here. Companies love to short change and forget to factor in things such as travel, tolls, commute time, taxes, into the overall compensation package.

This is the real reason I figure I'll stay put. The fully remote aspect allows me to move closer to family and get a little more relief with the kids. However, my hometown doesn't have a lot of job opportunities in my field. Staying near the Atlanta market is probably my best bet for career advancement.

Had a surprising talk/ offer this afternoon from one of the other business units I did work with before. They are working on standing up a new team and getting budget approved for a handful of special purpose project managers. From the sound of the call I am a shoe-in for one of the spots. Now I just have to wait till Monday to have the "it's not you, it's me" talk to try to not burn a very influential bridge.

New job requires drug test and finger prints. Drove 45 minutes to get to the nearest facility that does both just to find out that the fingerprint machine was broken. I could have not taken time off work and gone to a facility much closer to home to do just the drug test.

The next closest facility to do fingerprints is over an hour away and only open during my companies office hours. They can overnight me cards and I can get it done at a local law enforcement agency, but the close ones are closed due to COVID. I've never had a job get hung up on fingerprints before.

The fact that places are still using the covid excuse to stay closed is bullshit.

You can do fingerprints at a Silencer Shop kiosk and then purchase a print card with your prints on it. I did that for an ATF SOT application. I had my card in 4 days.

The delivered result is a standard fingerprint card with your prints. I submitted it to the ATF and they accepted it.

Our Sr Infomatica lead left today... guy was awesome. Just a great person to have on the team both in personality and skills. Knew shitloads about Informatica and ETL. Anyhow, I have been tasked to fill his shoes. I'm ok with it, but I am a more broad base skillset business intelligence developer, not looking for money or fame, just like things the way they are. At some point I will step down and be a WalMart greeter.

In the time that I've been in my present role, my team mate has gotten 2 promotions. When I started, we had equal titles. About a year and a half in, he got the Sr. added to his title. That's all well and good, because he deserved it. On Wednesday, he was promoted to Manager. This also makes sense, because he's been doing the manager's job for pretty much the entire time that I've been here.

In the meantime, I've gotten several high value certifications, implemented several new systems to bolster our security posture, developed or updated procedure documentation, maintain a high service level, and handle the majority of the "daily" tasks. I certainly think that I've earned the Sr. title, but the new manager indicated that he felt I had a ways to go before earning that title in a meeting I had with him yesterday. He did say that he wants to get me there sooner than later and that all I really need is exposure to some of our other systems. He also said that he was going to work hard to get me exposure to those other systems.

I've been asking to have a more hands-on role with many of those systems for 2 years and have always been told "Don't worry about those, that's his responsibility."

I guess that's the end of my vent session. I feel like I've reached the height of my potential in my current role. I got my fingerprints done the same day I was told that he was being promoted to manager. I'm hopeful to be able to put in my notice and let him know that I'm adding the Sr. to my title in advance of his timeline.

Sometimes it all comes down to who-likes-who more. Sad truth of it.

yep, it’s not who you know it’s who you blow in the working world. Tell the VP you’re now identifying as a woman and in a protected class, nothing fears companies more than a harassment or discrimination lawsuit, they’ll promote you in no time lol

First day on the new job and can't access the network.

In fact, I can't access anything. Well, I was able to log into the machine, but that is about it. First day after a holiday has me on a long hold with the help desk. Oh goody. I also don't have admin on this machine, so I can't change any settings myself.
