***Looks like this is not going to happen this year***

Leaving this for reference. Hopefully, we can do it next year.

Talks of a Colorado trip started while we were desperately searching for the toothbrush inventor in Arkansas.

I think it's a little premature to open a thread, but King TOR himself requested that we get one going.

AT THIS TIME, WE DO NOT HAVE ANY SET PLANS. Only dates. If you want to go, and there is something that you would like to do, speak up!

Q:What will we do?
A: The tentative plan as of now is to meet somewhere in Creede, Colorado on Sunday, September 2, 2018. That gives you Friday after work and all of Saturday to get on the road and head up there.

Monday is Labor Day, and Creede looks to have a decent amount of things going on.

Labor Day Weekend

Tuesday - Explore the great natural escape that is Colorado.
Wednesday - Pearl Pass to Aspen. Taylor Pass back. Depending on time, may save Taylor Pass til the next day.
Thursday - Either Taylor Pass or head toward Ouray
Friday - Blackbear Pass, Engineer Pass, Imogene Pass or some other. End the day in Ouray. Take another hot shower.
Saturday - Start the drive back to wherever it is that you came from.

Since much of the state is best seen on foot, I think the goal will be to drive 4-6 hours each day, find a spot to camp/fish/hike/whatever and enjoy the area.

What do I need?
A: A sense of adventure!

High clearance and 4 wheel drive at a minimum. Though, if you don't have that, I don't suspect that you would even be on this forum. If you're reading this, chances are that you have everything that you need.

Chances are that you also already have sliders and skids (plates, not marks). At least an All Terrain tire with enough tread to get you there and back. Please have a full size spare too. Some degree of recovery gear would serve you well, though I don't anticipate us getting stuck. There should be enough recovery straps and shackles should we need them.

Whatever you want to eat and drink.

Whatever you want to sleep in or on. This can be a tent, sleeping bag, blowup doll, boyfriend/girlfriend/wife/husband.

Gas.

Q: Who all is going?
A: That's a great question. Maybe no body. I'm not even confirmed that I can go, but I should be able to with enough advanced timing.

I'm not going to limit the number of rigs on the trip. I thought 7 was a pretty perfect number on the last journey, but Colorado is vastly open and I think this will go like most all planned trips....

...3 people will talk about it and decide to go. One will say "Hey! Why not open it up to TOR?"

"That's a great idea!" another will exclaim.

30 people will indicate interest and sign up. Then, slowly, the majority will drop off and we'll be left with somewhere between 5 and 10.

That being said, please bring your family. There will be drinking. What TOR trip doesn't have drinking? But no one should get drunk. Remember, you have to get up and drive the next day. Memories are made on trips like this. Either with family or friends, or both! If you have kids, bring them! There is so much more to life than a concrete jungle!

Let the list grow!

Monday is Labor Day, so we will plan to spend some time in one of the old towns. The only requirement for this town is that it have some form of patriotic festival and beer. My first thought is Crested Butte, but I have not looked to see what other towns have to offer. You may also want to take this opportunity to find a nice hot shower, as the next several days will be camping.

Tuesday morning, we'll head out to explore the great natural escape that is Colorado. Since much of the state is best seen on foot, I think the goal will be to drive 4-6 hours each day, find a spot to camp/fish/hike/whatever and enjoy the area.

Tuesday - Trails in Gunnison National Forest

So we are looking for this Towelie person/thing?
Might need to brush up on the south park episodes to learn more about where it could be hidding.

Remember it's CO. I think I passed him on a trail there one time. He was in a bright yellow jeep with pot leaf mud flaps that said, "Doing Bong Rips Is Not A Crime."

I will talk with the sammich maker. I would love to go back. I am certain that if I behave, one or some of you may help me with my walker, setting up my wheelchair ramp to my rooftop tent, and maybe a diaper or catheter change. Anyway, here is the picture I snapped. I thought I could find the one where he was being chased by a marmot but I couldn't find it.

I am cool with not camping the entire week. The weather can be unpredictable that time of year with snow in the higher elevations and in the 20s at night in the towns around 8000-9000 feet.

1 idea for a town that has beer(Kip's) and something that could be fun happening on Labor Day.
Labor Day Weekend

Silverton has a Western Film Festival

Breckenridge has a rubber duck race that is some kind of fundraiser.

Pine River Brewfest in Durango

Pretty sure you don't mean May 2nd but I'm wanting to make sure...

Looks like Creede has quite a bit going on, plus a race. If @italynstylion wants to do 2 races in CO in back to back weekends....

The races are the best chance of my wife going. We will have 2 small kids at this time (a 4 month old and a 2 year old). I've got family that will be in Almont, CO this time of year, so I'm thinking best chance is her riding up and maybe doing the festival in Creede (or Crested Butte), then I drop her and the kids off in Almont for a few days before picking them back up. We have access to private river front in Almont that has great fly fishing.

Holy shit....there's a LOT going on in Creede that weekend. Hot air balloon festival, salsa festival, race...all pretty cool stuff for a somewhat sleepy little town!

Hope it won't be too crowded....
The actual town might be a little crowded but not the trails or areas outside of town. It's a cool town and the 4th of July parade is a big deal there.

I wonder if I can save enough money to get a set of Dakar springs, a RTT, and build a bedrack by September

Gigolo, Sperm and Plasma bank...
