I have CB on my truck as well. While I like having it, the radio waves were silent in Arkansas...except for Zech. He basically relayed everything to me the first day before we realized that Sean had spares.

CB works pretty well on trails in Arkansas in my experience. People say I sound like I'm sitting in their back seat when I transmit, but that's probably due to the 102" whip

Never had an issue with the CB. Works fine from what I can tell. It's also fun to listen to the trucker chatter on the highway if you get bored.

It is not a war crime the first time.

I use the CB more for highway travel but found the 2M to have better range and clarity in the rougher terrain.

Looks like I am out on this trip. Brother just got a contract on a house in Idaho Springs so I will go see him the first of August. Explore trails near him and Breckenridge.

I may make a separate thread for this but here is my fluid plan that can change depending on a few things.
So I am going to help my brother move to Colorado in July. Idaho Springs west of Denver. The sellers have to be out by 7/24. If they get out early we will leave here on 7/21. Unload the trucks and trailers over the weekend. I will go into Denver on Monday the 23rd for work and do a few things I need to get done.
Then on the 24th I will start my way to Creede and Ouray by way of dirt and back roads for the rest of the week. Plan to fish at lake that is very remote and about a 3 hour hike.

Other option is if the sellers dont get out till the 24th. If that happens we will Leave on the 28th and my family will come with at that point. We will hit a few trails around Idaho Springs and probably do some tourist stuff.

At this point, I am going. My time off request was approved last week! The question for me is how much trail riding/camping and how much family visiting I will do.

I'm encouraging my wife to do the Creede Run with me (she will do a longer distance, I'm sure). The next day, we will head over and check out those waterfalls on our way over to the brewery. I won't be doing any camping as long as I have the family in tow. Either Sunday or Monday, we will head up to visit family. The number of people who go will determine my level of involvement with the group. I will split off Wednesday and Thursday for sure, but maybe more. I would plan to meet back up with the group on Friday to do some of the Ouray trails and be there for the run the following weekend.

Who all is serious about going?

So another factor for me is that if we sell our house I will probably not be helping my brother move and making this trip around Labor Day is much more likely.
I am serious but have to stay flexible as my obligations change.

The week of labor day is ideal for me. I registered for the race over Imogene Pass again so I need to be in Ouray on September 8th. So that's my ideal week but I'm flexible to an extent. I could fly out there just for the race but I'd prefer a week lead up in the mountains so I can get used to the altitude.

OK, so this isn't happening?

That depends, at least a little, on whether you are going...

As it stands right now, I'm going to be in CO the week of Labor Day. I'm planning on being in Creede for the run on the Saturday before Labor Day. The rest of the week is kind of up in the air. If a group does get together to go, I'll have to split off that Tuesday - Thursday (at a minimum) for family stuff. I'd really like to do some of the more popular trails (Imogene, Engineer, Black Bear) around Ouray that second weekend.

If our house sells and we move I will be in Colorado the week of Labor Day.
