If you really think we were gas lighted.... and the amount of dead is not enough to make you 'happy' for a few weeks inconvenience/down time - whats your number of deaths that would make this acceptable for you?
Would you be happier with 100K dead? Maybe 200K deaths would be better? Maybe 4x the flue numbers and 240,000 dead would make everyone feel better for the "massive amount of patriotism" it takes to stay at home for a month or two
If you want this to feel more realistic - we need volunteers here and in NYC. Feels pretty real to me every day when I get up and hear of another person I know has died or been infected.
The military is in the process recalling upwards of 10,000 IIR service members in the medical field, this is not including the almost 2K of retires that returned to duty. There will be a point that some of medical workers in these hospitals will become completely exhausted and I don’t think help is getting there fast enough.
Although I have laughed and/or posted memes about this rona outbreak, there is no doubt in my mind, this Covid19 outbreak is serious.

People die. People can learn to stay at home when they are sick. They can learn to cover their nose. They can understand that getting sick and feeling discomfort IS PART OF THE CURE. Much like having to work out each morning. It sucks but we were designed to WORK or somehow add to mankind or you are the next creature's food. We were designed that way. Italy has increased the alert level from “Shout Loudly and Excitedly” to “Elaborate Military Posturing.” Two more levels remain: “Ineffective Combat Operations” and “Change Sides.”
The Germans have increased their alert state from “Disdainful Arrogance” to “Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs.” They also have two higher levels: “Invade a Neighbor” and “Lose.”
Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.
The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.

I am more concerned about the politics of the covid crisis than the actual virus. These "relief packages" are being touted as a way to push a socialist idea and agenda on the entire country. The first taste of not working and still getting "income". They are not trying to get the vote of people who earn more than $1200 every two weeks; they are going for the much more numerous segment of the population that do not earn that much. Stay home and enjoy your "good life" while the money just appears.

That's not up to me. That is up to 'our creator,' 'natural forces,' 'science,' etc. A classic example is riding a motorcycle. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED RIDING but it is a high risk sport. After being slammed by a car for the last time, I knew it was time to hang up riding on 2 wheels. I spend an very inordinate amount of time at local amusement parks on rides that catapulted the rider off the start line - I loved the feeling. Then I graduated to racing go-carts. I knew my addiction and strong desire needed to be transmuted into another channel. - Today my 'high' that has replaced my desire to ride bikes is romping in the desert. I know it is dangerous. If I die or get seriously injured, PLEASE DO NOT FEEL SORRY FOR ME. I brought the shit on myself.
So, if people can keep their health choices in check - I don't mean try, they really will not have an issue. 200 years ago, unless you had more money than GOD - EG: Royalty, none of us would be fat since we would have to work to survive. How many fat animals to we see in nature? We don't. I have been 'trying' to lose my last 10 lbs. If I really took control or my willy-nilly eating habits and couch jockying, like I did when I lost 28 lbs, I would be down to my desired weight and would have a hard time keeping my sammich maker off of me!!!
Tell her to turn off the TV - this is a classic example of fearing fear itself in 99.9999% of the cases. As much as people bash religion. My 'MIL' has been battling cancer for the last 10 years. We were told she would not make it much past 2015. She is still fighting a good fight. She now has Stage IV lung cancer. What does she do to pass the time and the anxiety? She prays, meditates and cooks food for her friends - She believes, and I can't argue with her, that the 18 months that she was actually being told that she was in remission, that her prayers were being answered so that she could spend more time with her grandbabies. She always have a smile albit is smaller at times - it's always there.
True but to design the whole nation to focus only on the most vulnerable is idiotic. That's how we create public schools where everyone gets an 'education' on par with the class idiot.
My family was in the auto parts biz since the late 70s. We have said that people worry about a war with China but don't realize that their desire not to have to replace the vacuum bag with a new one or fixing a belt or just cleaning the damn thing - going down to walmart and just buying a new one - Has fed right into them wining a war they have been fighting with us for 50 years.
Conservative folks aren't nearly as good at emotional warfare. The Liberal way is to get you to live your life as they see fit. Conservative approach is much more a 'live and let live.'
I have only taken unemployment once in my life and have had at the very least 5 times that I could have. I felt self-righteous and didn't want to not have pressure on me to go out to the jungle and find more food - get another job. This time, fuck that. Going into my 60th year, I know how to fight and I guarantee you that through this whole deal, I have been working WAY harder than 98% of people in my business. Every weekday morning I have a strategy meeting with 5 other leading agents. I am not stopping adding value and if I receive a couple of checks from the gubmint I know I didn't have the proverbial baby to get another check. Zero guilt on this end.
I know I may sound like a dick to few or many. I'm okay with that. If I start whining about shit, I also welcome the same shit storm. It will make me stronger. Just like all of the 'failures' in my life, they don't feel good when it happens but the faster I can get to the other side of that whining, the happier I will be and the more I will contribute to my loved ones and my society.
Take this opportunity to put effort into 'curing' that ailing health issue or habits that will lead to issues in the future.

Choice has a cost. I would love to see the data on underlying issues such as:
- Obesity
- Cigarette smoking
- Lack of exercise
- Willy nilly sanitation - not washing hands, sneezing without covering mouth and nose
- Going to large crowd gatherings
AFFLUENCE and FREEDOM has a cost...
And that does not include the conscious decision to terminate the life of a baby in the womb but I am certain that many feel that's no different that disposing a used condom or drying a soaking sheet.

Betting the vast majority of people that are "stuck" at home are not getting that much cardio so that cardiovascular death score is going to go up a bit more.
