I'll get more on that hummer thing in a second. We were helping the sand rail and I was on the ridge tipping. All I wanted to do was to put my winch on someones bumper and make sure I didn't flop. My buddy that was a bit over zealous - especially after yanking a flat bottomed sand rail off the ridge, on his own, decided that I needed the same yank.... with his windows up, not on a radio. He spun me right around 90 degrees. My only option at this time is put another notch in the experience stick!

Wildflower worries at Anza-Borrego

White wildflowers from 2005 at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Officials are asking for help weeding out an invasive plant that could crowd out the flowers this year.
California's largest state park is calling for volunteer gardeners to help save the popular wildflower season.
The very wet fall and winter in Southern California, followed by a spate of warm temperatures, would seem at first glance to be a great prescription for the annual burst of wild blooms at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.
Early wildflowers are showing up and you can get updated reports at the website of the Anza-Borrego Desert Natural History Association website: http://www.abdnha.org and the Anza Borrego Foundation website: http://www.theabf.org.
But the rain has officials worried about a bumper crop of the invasive Sahara Mustard plant. The financially strapped park is asking for volunteer gardeners to help pull thousands of the weeds before the wildflowers are crowded out. Weeding sessions will take place Feb. 12 and Feb. 26. Volunteers are urged to attend a weeding training session on Feb. 8 if they can.
The Feb. 8 training will take place from 9 a.m. until noon. Those who cannot attend the training will be given a brief training before mass weeding sessions on Feb. 12 and Feb. 26.
Training and weeding groups will assemble at the demonstration plot on the north side of Henderson Canyon Road, 1/2 mile east of the intersection with Borrego Valley Road. Volunteers are asked to wear sturdy hiking boots, sunscreen, bring water and snacks or lunch. Come prepared: Bring gloves and a hoe (preferably a "hula hoe" or stirrup hoe) or other weeding tools. The sessions are cancelled if there is rain.
In related news, state budget cuts have hurt funding for Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. However, emergency funding from the private Anza-Borrego Foundation will keep the Visitor Center to be open daily through the end of April.
The park is in east San Diego County, but extends into portions of Imperial and Riverside counties. Plan on a drive of at least 2.5 hours. Many visitors approach from the east or west via Highways S22 and 78. For Orange County residents in the north and central county, the shortest drive time might be to head northeast to Corona and take Interstate 15 south to Temecula, then take Highway 79 southeast via Warner Hot Springs and enter the park via S22.
