TG Diff Breather

These look way easier than messing around with adding an extended breather hose. Do they actually work?

Don't see why it wouldn't work, as long as its sealed properly. I'd probably throw a worm clamp on instead of the one they give you.

Looks neat, but honestly I would stick with the proven method aswell. It doesn't get any easier than doing a diff breather mod, and if you use the BSPT to NPT adapter fitting from McMaster-Carr you don't need any dealer parts.

The water puddles at the mall are WAY to hardcore for that diff breather...lol

Just in general, with all other things constant air, if air was to change by 100 degrees it would change the volume by 22%. From my simpleton logic, I would go with the scuba mod guys do. Otherwise, just put a plug in there and call it good!!! ;)

I would like to see a video of the extremes - I am sure it will find itself collapsed to nothing and expanded to it's max.

You have to remember also that the diff is more than half full of oil and the air can mix with air from further down the axle tube. I doubt the air temp goes up that high.

I wonder. It's just an example of how many things are put together on a basic theory. When I worked at the GM Desert Proving Grounds we would thermocouple a car with as many as 200 inputs. You would be surprised some of the extremes while beating a car/truck, etc. in the high heat of a desert! Who knows? I don't :)

Edit: Looks like a good question on a heat transfer exam. Any professors on this board? Oh that's right, they're on the Pipe Smoking boards!

I sure don't know either.

The main thing to remember though is that slow temperature change isn't what the breather is for. It's for sudden cooling when the diff is submerged in water. I think it would probably do that just fine, but will probably stick with the traditional method.

It is an innovative product, we just need to test it out......Spare (junk) diff - weld axle tubes closed, cheap or used gear oil, heat it up with a torch, then water hose it down and see what happens.

I say buy one for Rich and let him test it. Day starts at 22 degrees and drive - oh that's right, in his state, everything is way too close to find out. Maybe we can get him on a trip back to Pennsytucky on a cold day with a gocam.

Frack me..
Hmm, new product test thread thread coming? Just need to get Vendors to donate items, so we can prove they work or not.. :D

I've been trying to get RCV to send me some CV's (worth a try right) but they never return my emails. I really just want to know if the Tacoma CV's can be used on a 4Runner because I have a feeling they can't...
