So I have this great opportunity that comes from breaking your shit - and remember to:

Never Let a Good Crisis Go to Waste!

Ford 9" - I've haven't yet discovered the idea of putting Ford 9" into a 2nd generation Taco. And while we're at it, should we really have discs on these things? Just the pain-in-the-ass paper gasket on the Drum is enough of a reason to justify that option.

Opinions?

Paper gasket on the drums? I've torn mine completely apart several times now and don't know where this gasket is?

The 9" is overrated, unless you get a highpinion 9" (super duper $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$). Best bang for the buck is call up currie and get one of their rock jock 60s like the one they make for allpro to go under the rear of the FJs. In your order however specify that you do not want the suspension brackets that come on this axle. This plus any disc brake conversion for the 05+ taco (rockjock has same ends as the taco does) and you will be set with an indestro axle

I redid the rear brakes on mine about 8k miles ago.. I don't recall a paper gasket, but maybe its a new 09 model thing?

Some POS paper gasket - cures any defects on mating surfaces up to .0005"! ;)

I just wanted to be as clean as I could if it ended up being a drum brake problem (warranty work) unrelated to my work.

I have a full floater 9" from Currie being built right now.

Randy is right that a Rock Jock is better for crawling but..........my truck is a desert truck and needs to be as light as possible. My 9" is a lot lighter than a Dana 60. Its also made for pre-runner applications not for dragging over rocks. My pinion angle is super low. I have a diff skid to protect my drive shaft u joints but its still pretty low.

Coming from a cost perspective of a warranty, of probably shipping costs, then to the $3,746.00 level - oh my - note to self - can get lots of stuff with that kinda cash!

I was thinking something in the $1,200-1,700 range.

BTW - I have no idea what a Rock Jock would cost but my imagination thinks it costs about $3,746.00.

Yea, with the rock jock you're looking at about 2000 for the housing and custom shafts, then you will need to supply your own carrier and gears

I kinda wonder if it is a 'warranty seal'

In COMM with Chase - I hope I can get my POS back on track by the time my nephew comes out from USVI - I'd love to take him wheeling!

Wow! - $4,500 from Chase (Full Float COMP 9" CAA ECGS) and $3,700 from All Pro (Rock Jock 60). What's even more amazing is having thoughts I could justify it by selling my rear, not breaking down, you know the regular crap. I guess I could probably justify an ICON too!

Trail Rig? or High End Rear? :D

I know this is random but a good friend of mine takes pics of the ICON parking lot from time-to-time and and saw one of these...

...when it comes to trucks - that certainly are one of the great icons! :)

My uncle and his father in law both have old power wagons, Uncles still has the 6 banger and is all stock, but his FIL's is totally built up with a 5.7 Hemi in it.

When I was younger it was my dream rig - never forget seeing my first one that was a PA fire truck with exto that would allow you to do an endo roll! :)

Well... I've been there.. dumping tons of cash into rebuilding the Taco after breaking it time and time again. So I see how you can justify it. But.. now that I have a dedicated trail rig, I'll only wheel the Taco to go camping/fishing/expo or to recover the 4Runner. :) Only downside to that PowerWagon is towing it.
