Hail is a concern, but the panels are more impact resistant than shingles. They are designed to flex, not break. They are covered under home owners insurance just like shingles. I'm not worried.. if it happens they will replace it. Just like they would a roof.

Frack me..
didn't know they were covered under insurance! Too bad you don't get a check from the power company for feeding the grid anymore..

Also, the panels I'm looking at have a 25 year warranty and the companies offer a lifetime warranty against anything they did wrong... even if a squirrel chews through a wire.. they cover it.

Just had a company come out and give me an estimate for a 6K solar setup for the house. Not exactly cheap.. but it will eventually pay for itself. The thing I like about this company is they use US made panels. But I'm getting a few more estimates... hope to do this soon.

Cool Sean, I have interest in doing something like this as well, gotta see what kind of funds I have after moving in.
I even thought of working at a place that installs this part time to gain the knowledge and material Infomation to execute the project myself, keep us posted

I would have to run a cost risk/reward analysis...how long would it take for the $30k to a break even and receive possible credits of feeding back to the grid vs. time value money of saving 30k x # of years x with safe estimate at 7% return

Keep the assumptions going. If we get another douche bag like Obama, the assumption of much higher fuel and energy costs will be a reality. Once again, I just hope that I make enough money to be able to afford an opportunity to get others to pay for my choices in life. :) I think a neighbor subsidized Tesla would be fun too.

It takes about 5-7 years to get an ROI. But I plan to be here for 15 or more. Depending on where there little one goes to college. My latest quote was for a 7.2Kwh system, priced at $25K.. after utility rebates (which I have to get on a waiting list for) and federal tax credits it comes out to about $10-12k out of pocket (depending on how we file the taxes and which way benefits us best). Which they say is will give me an ROI at 7.3 years. Like Roger said, energy prices are probably not going to be cheaper in the future. I'm paying 8.1 cents per Kw now, which is pretty good. But free is even better. edit.. its not free.. it works out to 3.4 cents per KwH.

Cut the yard on the diagonal today just to ruffle the neighbors feathers who get their yards cut. It actually looks pretty cool. Makes me want one of those rollers to make crazy designs in the yard.

That's kind of what I was going for... But you can mow your own.

That's Mr Asshole to you
Good looking flag. I'm the only house on the street that displays one almost every day.

Thanks... We always fly one, but it occasionally gets swapped for the Texas flag.

Well I'll be damned... Color me a trendsetter. A neighbor one block away has already copied my yard today.

Go collect your fee... you got a copyright correct? ;)

My John Deere riding mower was doing patterns in my yard... turns out I had a flat tire. lol It made one side of the mower deck sit about 1/2 lower... end product looked like absolute crap. :D
