Replaced 2 broken sky lights from a hail storm a while back. When I say replace, someone else did it since it was only $200 more than doing it myself.

Man its gorgeous outside right now. I thought I wrote this out yesterday but I guess I didn't hit send. But I have picked up 19 plants/trees.. 12 palms(6 tall 6 short), 7 other... all designed to give some privacy. 300' of heavy duty landscape edging (eventually I will replace all of it with 1/8" x 5" flat plate), 1600 sq ft of weed block, 35 bags of mulch, ordered 6 yards of medium river rock to be delivered on Wednesday. Mulch goes in front yard in all the beds. River rock goes all around the backyard trees and pool area. I didn't want mulch blowing in the pool. Its looking really good. The landscapers are killing it. Almost done, a few more palms to plant around the spa area. Then they will come back Thursday to put down the weed block and river rock in back yard.

Looks like I'll need to pick up another 60' of landscape edging. Fucking money pit.

If I get this house I put an offer on, I'll have quite a bit of landscaping to do in the front yard. Luckily, that's all I'll really need to do. Other than that, the house is ready to go.

Oh I'm not saying there won't be things I do. Just saying it's completely functioning and livable as is. But the front yard is mostly dirt so I need to take care of that ASAP. Several things I know I'll change but they're not pressing and I'll get to them when I do.

I guess one thing I learn from each time I build one.. is that there are always things I'll do differently. I guess kinda how at one point in my life I didn't like cheese.. or broccoli.

Speaking of building... wife and I looked at a new neighborhood development with a floor plan we like not too far over what our target price is going to be. 3 car garage is only $10k add on...done.
Got a lot done around the house today to prep for selling. Several boxes packed to declutter closets and cabinets, got a donation pile going with some trash bags of cloths and some other things.

Goal is to list towards the end of May and be out by end of June. Going to get into a rent house in the same neighborhood to either build or take our time searching for a house and probably doing a remodel.

STRETCH the garage.. add 5' (or more) to the front and get the .5 side addon. DO IT! Go big. I stretched mine a ton. Push it to the limit of the lot.

The one thing I fucked up on our new place, they dropped the garage at the last minute 2' (gave me 11' ceilings) but I did not make the garage doors taller. Fail on my part.

Still not too late to change that. Only takes money. :)

If we build the garage will be made as big as possible. The house we looked at yesterday with a 3 car was wide enough but the depth was questionable so adding to it would be a must.

That's what my dad regrets about his shop. He only put in 8' tall doors. Everyone told him to go with 12-14' tall doors and he refused. Learned his lesson the hard way. His boat only clears by 1".

More garage than House is the answer!

We don't need a formal dining room or a 3rd bedroom... make that garage space. :)

Where's the flashing and step flashing? Personally I love the Velux kits.

Think I've come up with a new plan for my metal front door idea. I could either make the steel part a kind of like a storm door and have a double pane all glass door behind it, or will a double pane storm door with the metal as the main door be better? Either way I'm trying to keep the steel door from radiating heat into the house.

Ran Cat5e cable to 3 bedrooms over the weekend. Got the keystones and everything installed in 2 of the rooms. I just need to do the actual drop and keystone in the third bedroom and I'm that much closer to saying the entire house is networked. The kitchen and Master bedroom are the only two remaining rooms, and the Master is going to be impossible for where I think the drop should go. I'll either have to drop somewhere else, or not network it.

Got my Axis Euro mount secured to the new base that I made it. Now just gotta figure out where to hang it.

Made a chair for the front porch. It's......functional. Never made that kind of chair before. It's sturdy, but kind of ugly. Many lessons learned.

I can't decide if I want to put one more piece for support and make it look like an Adirondack chair. It doesn't need the support, but might not be bad to have it.

I did all my beds in river rock (11 tons worth). At the time my thinking was that mulch was a waste of time and money because it needs to be refreshed every season. What I did not anticipate is that the river rocks make it much harder to grow certain plants. They get super hot and don;t do a good job of keeping moisture in the soil. Just something to consider as your planting. Looking back I'd still do the river rock, but I would of bought plants that were more drought tolerant.
