All is well, even the Victory Garden plants take pride in presenting the colors.

I need a good fence before I plant anything else. Tired of coming home from work to a mess in my beds. Somehow Ive attracted a rabbit as of yesterday and he's digging and eating like crazy. Scared him off with a close .68 cal warning shot yesterday. Relocated one critter to meet his 72 virgins and another fills his place the next day....now I get the game "whack a mole" lol

A former coworker of mine is going through some rough times, he was the soul income provider for his family of four. About a year ago he was challenged with some unknown major medical problems and became unable to work. A couple months ago the doctors finally figured out what he was suffering from, he has autoimmune encephalitis (the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy brain cells , leading to inflammation of the brain) and he is currently doing regular
intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) infusions/treatments. He also happens to be one of my neighbors, he lives about 2 streets over from me. Basically in the past year, they have had to sell off a lot things(boat, jewelry, golf cart, family heirlooms) to make up for loss of income, they are in the process of filing for a disability retirement from the government which will provide about 40% of his pay and they are currently in the process with filling with social security as well. I often give them some money every now and then and offer my help around the house, but his kids have been keeping up with that. Recently I offered them some of the excess vegetables that I have and of course they kindly accepted and we’re very thankful. :)

I just lost the middle tallest stock on my blackberry bushes to the high winds the other day. Not a big deal - think it lost 10" so now it will just get even 'bushier'

Joel's take on small farming is interesting. He drinks water from his feed troughs every morning & hasn't been sick in decades or so he says.

States some pretty disturbing data on top soil loss as well as water surface area loss by us killing off 800 million beavers when we arrived. Says the current system is not sustainable and needs to go back old school small scale farms and residential gardeners

Interesting. I will have to view more when I’m not so exhausted. I barely could make it out to the garden this evening to pick veggies.

Fried Okra will be a new choice on my dinner plate and I picked my first strawberry :D

We ended up getting rain all night and still going now w/some nice lightning and thunder in the distance

Germination is much slower than the GMO Scott's grass I seeded around the same time as the wildflowers, but overall I'm happy so far. Spots that get the most sun are doing well. Spots with less sun not so much yet, but just a week ago we had temps in the low 30's so hopefully with some more time it springs to life.

still trying to figure out what to make a front border out of. right now it's weeds and sticks I pulled from the bed, but thats creating super weeds from the mulch effect ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

also next time - I won't make as many rookie mistakes. I screwed just about everything up. Guessing I had a good deal of seed get covered too deeply and blow around. Should of done it all in fall and tilled/watered in/slight compact/seed/roll seed in.

Planted almost an acre of iron clay cow peas on Saturday. First food plot we have done so this is more of a trial to see how it goes before investing time and money into more.

Also got a 40 year old tractor running. Oil change, new fuel lines, air filter, fuel filter, radiator hoses, belt, thermostat, and new hydraulic fluid.
Discovered one of the hydraulic rams has a leak so need to get that rebuilt but this thing will be very useful getting more plots planted.

when I used to do food plots I would put up a roll of fence horse/cow wire, any where from a 4 to 6 foot diameter staked down, that kept the deer from eating my control plants, it’s good ideal to know how well those plants did without any animals from constant browsing, this also gives you a good ideal wether you want replant that particular seed again. The wire ring can also be placed near an ideal bow shot from a hunting stand perspective, and the ring can be removed a few days prior to the season opens.

I have seen that done before on food plots but we wont be up there for another 3-4 weeks so relying on the 2 game cameras to help with showing how well it does. If we plant more then we may look into keeping the deer out of it at first but we also have cows on the other parts we want plots.

Interesting take on tomato planting. Guy plants them sideways and says because they are a vine the extra roots from the stem being buried will help develop better fruit. he did this last season as well so not a one off youtube clickbait bs

I would have not ordered these seeds, if I known if it was coming from China, a stupid Amazon purchase.

It appears China circumvents U.S. customs by labeling the package as “Wire Connectors”.

ha ha, I don’t know, I ordered a bunch of stuff, it was mostly seeds that were not available from websites like you posted, it’s not labeled and can’t cross reference tracking # with Amazon to the seeds, I will have to wait until they all arrive from various companies to nail down which seeds these are, it is a bean type seed, that I know.

Today’s pickins. Except for the red Roma’s.
Probably another 10-12 cucumbers will be picked tomorrow for the 3rd round of canning.

Pretty soon we’re gonna start running into lots of excess of maters, and that will be donated out to a couple of families in need that I know.

I plan to use my extra tomatoes to jar salsa and jar tomato sauce. Your plan is admirable and may do the same with my excess harvest.

yeah we are gonna make salsa too, plants that grow bigger tomatoes are loaded down, I have about 30 mater plants in the ground, only about 8 are producing now, here in the next 2 weeks, it will be at the rate of avg. 60 maters a day, and production will continue to increase until about mid July.

30 plants? Damn. I have 3. Wish I had room for more. Maybe as I remove more shrubs that I dont like I will be able to get more in the ground next spring.

Got a stock tank from TCS on Saturday for a planting bed. Picked up pavers and organic dirt for it today to get it ready for plants. Uses child labor to help move the dirt. LOL Little one and her BFF.. they work for popsicles.
