These little farts have now found the rose bushes, I‘m gonna have to pick up a couple hundred feet of construction barrier fence and attach it to the gate and funnel these guys out!

Yep. Some venison would go nicely with all that fresh produce.

We found a squirrel in our micro garden last night. I think my wife caught him before he did any damage, but he looked more interested in the pepper plants than the tomatos.

not new, the 2 fawns that are stuck on my property, which have now discovered the rose bushes...

something is taking out my rose bush and I'm clueless. eating holes in my leaves and even the flowers before they bloom

it's been growing crazy good since I started actually started taking care of it this year so I'm guessing I attracted some kind of bug with all the new growth and flowers

So the cowpeas were swarming with wasps this evening, about 7 to 8 different types of wasps this evening, and the ones I could easily identify were the red wasps, yellow jackets, ground wasps, paper wasps and mud daubers. There were wasps about every one foot along the cowpeas, plus the ones flying around. Those red wasps are some of the most aggressive wasps when near their nests, but yet they could care less with me harvesting the pods.

Wasps are good for your garden (yes, even the ones that sting)

So, some predators are actually good.

knew I did not have enough topsoil but I thought i had prepped plenty of cardboard. Gotta prep a few more sheets to finish the row and double up under the seams. 10* cooler today butt he humidity is like soup. yesterday was 98* so not much done. and yea....no truck work yet

finally figured out my gate posts as well....skipping wood and concrete all together

wedge lock has some pretty cool T post hardware thats US made. I can't get the fence as tight as I'd like it because the corners flex so I'm thinking next year if I'm bored Ill grab their corner braces, but thats not needed now - just a slight wave in the top of 2 sections

Finished weeding and mulching a few areas in the Victory Garden, finished the small okra row and yanked out the rest of the corn stalks and planted 10 more cherry mater plants, left a few Swiss chard plants, not sure how well these younger plants will do with these 100* + days.

Surpassed 4,000 maters on July 4th .

I thinned out a few cowpea plants this wknd, threw them outside the garden area, the deer loved them, the fawns were grabbing the whole plants and walking away(their not able to chew in pieces as fast and they did not want to share) from other deer, it was quite funny to see them drag those plants that are longer than their height around.

Nice! Our cowpeas are doing awesome and the deer have finally found them. We have pictures of them with entire plants in their mouth.

Yesterday I also pulled onions between these Jalapeños plants and this where I put the other 3 mater plants. These are not sweet onions, but the goal next year is grown 20-25lbs+ of the Texas sweet onions.

looks good, hopefully the plot will receive regular moisture, you can broadcast turnip and oats seed over the same area in September after the 2nd rain event in the month, that’s what I did on my 1.5acre food plot near Hamilton for a few years.

Good to know about the turnips and oats. Rain has been perfect so far and just got another 2ish inches over the weekend.

Clover as well, find a feed store who sells by the pound, you will need 1 - 2lbs of seed each of the clover & turnips for that plot, the seeds are really tiny and go a long way.

Priced out cedar mulch 5 min ago with a wholesale landscape supply place thats 5 miles from my house and supplies all the local landscapers. They want $50 a yard for cedar mulch delivered! I almost fell over. That's after I told him I need 10 yards of mulch and 4 yards of screened topsoil & a pallet or two of stack able bluestone.

Thats more than 2x the cost of concrete per yard and we have cedar forests all over NJ. Holy molly....

Hardwood mulch is $24/yard. Decisions decisions.

I'm usually pretty proud of my ability to negotiate a fair price but this was a total failure. Might go grab some cash and take a drive over there to talk to someone face/face. That's how I got my 9 yards of river rock cheap way back in the day. They were slow - I drove up with cash in hand - walla - deal was made.

this little guy isn't doing so well and the only thing I can think of is lack of water or acidic soil. He gets the most sun and is on the highest ground so I gave him a few more inches of mulch along with that entire row.

also threw down a cup of Dr Earths Acid Lovers fertilizer and mixed it into the ground first. Got some Neem oil in today so maybe tomorrow Ill spray them and my rose bush down - looks like it's going to rain right now

Also still collecting cardboard to complete the sheet mulching. Was going to order the bulk topsoil and mulch last weekend to have it ready but I don't need 14 cubic yards worth of piles sitting in my yard for weeks as I collect cardboard up.

at least Ill be ready to rock and roll next season early. I dropped the ball this season for sure after getting a late start.
