Source: Toyota will settle truck frame rust suit for up to $3.4 billion

The settlement program will affect 2007-08 Toyota Tundra and 2005-10 Tacoma pickup trucks along with 2005-08 Sequoia SUVs, with the total figure derived from the estimated cost of frame inspections and replacements for over 1.5 million total trucks.

The frame replacements are estimated to cost $15,000 each, which adds up to $3.375 billion, while the cost of inspections for the affected trucks is expected to add another $90 million, at $60 per truck, according to lawyers representing the class of plaintiffs.

I wonder if this applies to original owners only. Anyone have some info on this?

I am just glad I was finally able to come to terms with my local dealer to get my rear leafs replaced. I hate to know what it would take to get the frame replaced.

Dude no freaking joke. I have a place in my frame that has a "cut" in it due to rust. I took it in and they told me I passed when I was sure that I would not. I told them to show me their test. They took a hammer and hit one spot on the frame...

And you are down by the coast all the time.. or at least you were. Thats sketchy. My frame is fine but its never been in water really and I usually keep it painted. Usually because I need to do it again.

Yeah, I am due for another coat to. No time to do it though. May try and get some done over Thanksgiving.

Good news for guys like me who never got their trucks inspected during the allotted time frame. Now I have until 2020. I know a few guys that will be very happy with this settlement because their frames are toasted. Props to all the Toyota owners who laid the foundation for the suit and carried through with it. I appreciate their efforts and can't even begin to imagine the BS Toyota corporate put them through.

Just pay $200 bucks and have a certified NDT done on the frame then fight Toyota, if local dealer rejects, spend $15 bucks and file small claims to max amount

If they wanted to buy my '06 Tacoma at 1.5x I would gladly let them have it. I could buy my wife a decent commuter car/suv and fix up my old truck to be a towing rig. I would still have cash in my pocket.

Yeah poor guy. The car seller was supposed to take the decals off for him before selling it but didn't do it. I think the plumber sued the car seller and won.
