Looks like tomorrow's weather forecast is Mod in the morning, clearing by late afternoon with a chance of Beer showers throughout the day.

I'm just trying to pay my debt since I owe you :)

I'm pretty sure the gears are fine, just need to yank that locker. I cannot believe that the instructions say it is only good for a 31" tire. Who the fuck puts a locker in a stock truck?

The recomended tire size is to keep from breaking axle shafts and diff carriers and is just the manufacturers spec. Most people agree 33s are the limit for auto lockers. Has nothing to do with the sounds.

I agree that the gears are prob fine, but it's not a bad idea to pull it until you can get a one piece shaft or upgrade to ARB

That is one of the ugliest damn things I've ever seen but who cares? Its under the truck out of sight and appears as if it will work just fine! You might consider some ribs that run the length of each side. It will multiply the strength exponentially.

Those bolt heads can get shredded on rocks pretty easily. One solid scrape and you may not be able to get a socket on there. Getting the bolt heads protected could be done two ways.
Hard but clean way: cut like 1.5" holes where the bolts are now and weld a small plate over the hole with the normal 3/8" hole in it. This recesses the bolt head.

Easy way: while leaving enough room for a socket to get on the bolt head, weld up a bead around each bolt head. Kinda protects the head in a bunker.

Not really my ride, but my buddy and I worked on my old POS trailer yesterday. Started by putting it on jackstands and getting it level. Ended up cutting all the 3" schedule 40 off the top of it. Also pulled up all the boards and replaced the shitty ones. Then we ground out all the broken/cracked parts and welded it back together. We then bolted the boards to each crossmember of the frame. The steel supply house was closed, but the plan is to put a piece of 2x2x 1/4" angle all the way along each frame rail. Also need to work on the wiring, I'd say the person who wired up did a shitty job, but that would give shit a bad name. I need to pick up some brakes for it as well. As it is I think it will make it to HF on the 15th but I would like to do a little more to be safe.

Well, was finally able to get the winch wiring finished up! I tell ya next time I have to do this I will be dropping the bumper, it was a PITA getting to the ground bolt on the underside of the motor. I located the switch in one of the blanks. MOAB T-minus 4 weeks!:D

Good call on the ribs- didnt think about that as far as adding strenght.
Im going to take the easy way- buy some metal pipe in diameter large enough for the socket to access bolt-cut it enough to protect the bolt and weld to the skid.

Carriage bolts are great if you have an iron working machine that punches square holes. My shop does (woohoo!!) But his probably doesn't. That brings him back to somehow protecting the bolt head.
