Thats the way to go! Around here there are very very few that have those... actually nobody I wheel with has one. We are usually so close that a CB isn't really needed. But it is nice when someone shows up late and is trying to locate the group. Do the handhelds offer the same level of performance as the ones mounted in the vehicles?

Yeah, I find we use them so much - it's 95% of the social connection of going wheeling. It's a lot of chatter but we have a good group of comedians! :)

So in order to operate a 2M setup, do you need a HAM license?

Also makes a road trip with a caravan of trucks seem much shorter then it actually is when your all BS'ing.

Publically? :) I'd say 90% of the folks I comm with don't have one. They hack the radio to be on a MURS freq. All the desert race guys get 'Race' radios and none of them have licenses. If you have a science background, you can review all the questions (they are public) - then just go take a test. Pretty easy in my mind.

and funny. Also with a Ham at 75 watts you can be WAY out there and still be in comm with your buds.

what channel or freq do you operate on?

Depends upon the group and if someone is already on that freq.

One other nice thing is, with the exception of some places like most all of OC, you can scan police/fire/forest service/park service/etc. (OC is digitally scrambled or some, some)

Just ordered this for my truck http://www.gaugepods.com/05tacoma.jpg

Now I need to find me a tranny temp gage and decide what I want the other one to do (to many options) and decide on what brand I want.

Get an extra sender and sink it in your diff. Then get a switch so that you can check from time-to-time! :) Better yet a blinker relay or some-some and have it go back and forth! :)

Looks familiar. :)

I went with AutoMeter Sport Comp trans temp and oil pressure. They seem to match the factory cluster fairly well.

Put a boost gage in it, that way you'll have a reason for a supercharger.

I like this Keith.

Thanks Rob, it only comes in Grey and black so I got the unpainted black and will get a good vinal paint to match my tan.

Looks like the Taco is going to school. Wearing a backpack.

Trasharoo installed. It comes on and off very easily. I will only have it on for trails but I wanted to size up the straps beforehand. It holds a large trashbag inside so you won't be getting it all nasty.

I stole idea from sean. I give a 100% credit to him lol.I got my gauges from autometer. I like them but the are a little bright at night.

And yeah hopefully they are a better fit now. I still need to workout how to get the bottom screw cover on the "oh shit" handle back on and fitting. Maybe I need to shave the top down a little?
