Big Bend State Park January 18-21

Frack me..
Anyone here done Lake Amistad? If so, any suggestions for campsites?

Amistad was REALLY low last time I went several months ago.. Stay in Del Rio at the Ramada.. White Horse Saloon is actually pretty cool.

BTW, Someone should change the title of this thread... it's misleading. Big Bend Ranch is the state park, and Big Bend is is a National Park.. very different places, both have offroad trails.

It says big bend state park since that is where I plan to go. Been trying to find some reviews on good campsites.

this is what you are thinking about, right? http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/state-parks/big-bend-ranch

They told me there are some mountain road trails that are good. Supposedly the drug smuggler used to take them..? We drove around, and through some trails.. got some real nice pin striping. It's a pretty area, at the ranch you can pretty much park anywhere and camp on the trails from what I could tell. They don't get much traffic..

Looks like this is going to good.

Shouldn't see as many creepy crawlers in January, I wouldn't think.

They'll all be hiding

And I bet no one will bother us if we find a good spot we want to rock crawl out in the middle of nowhere

I'm sure that will happen regardless. We always try to find something to climb.

Last night I got the 84 out of the garage. Thought I had everything out of the way, then ran over my daughters bike helmet. Then when I was backing it back into the garage my tire grabbed my compressor hose, and now my compressor can't be used. But it was nice to get it out and climb some curbs while I was at it.

Thanks for the links Sean. I found a pretty good trip report on a Jeep forum that mentioned a campsite I was considering till it said it was the least favored of the ones they stayed at.
I found a video I will look for agin that had 2 jeeps driving around out there. Roads didn't look bad, mostly seemed like small climbs and off camber stuff. Most could probably be done in 2wd by the looks of it but 4x4 would be needed in some spots espically if it rains or snows.

First post updated. Guale campsite is reserved and there is 2 at this location so we can get it if needed but I might go ahead and reserve to no one is near us and incase we need the extra room.

How many vehicles per site. 3? I thought I read that somewhere. Might need the second site just for that reason. We have what... 4 rigs so far? Jason, Drew, Sam, Roger.. you guys in?

I seriously doubt we'll have any trouble getting enough campsites. Plus, you can camp anywhere in the bush as long as you're far enough away from the road.

Having a site would be good to park tow rigs if anyone brings them though

So Drew is going to have a running rig for this meet? lol

I doubt we will have an issue with the park ranger stopping by our site but I will call them back to reserve the other site just to cover everything. Its only $8 to reserve it.
