My mom popped off earlier and said "If all it needs is a new engine why don't you just put the one from your truck in it then sell your truck for parts." She knows not to tempt me with stuff like that. I'm almost dumb enough to do it!

Since she said it, I'd do it

It is not a war crime the first time.

Was having this conversation with my dad on the way to pick it up. I would like to be able to drive it to the close trails like Bridgeport and Tolar. But other than those two I will trailer it.

Bridgeport isn't a bad drive. It only takes me about 1.5 hrs doing around 60mph. I'm looking at different routes that will let me keep it up to speed with less road traffic.

Thoughts on what I should do about the engine? My dad thinks I should order a new built shortblock. But that doesn't sound very $$ friendly to me.

If your going to do it you might as well do it right the first time. Trust me - I had to rebuild my Harley motor twice because I went the cheap way the first time. Do it right the first time and invest your money later on mods instead of engine work.

Sounds like waste. Get the one Rob has and slap it in there. Then if the other one isn't too far gone, rebuild it yourself the right way.

If your trying to be cost effective I would still see what is wrong with the motor that is in it first. If it can run again with minimal work; I would get it running and use the borrowed time to get another motor lined up. Get the motor from Rob, go through it real quick, drop in an RV cam and do all the 100k mile work that should be done to it. This way you can work on the motor as money and time allows; while your still able to wheel on the weekends.

I plan to see what's wrong with the current engine but I'm not going to mess with it for very long. Regardless if it runs or not it doesn't do me any good. It needs a new exhaust and passenger side leaf spring before it can be driven. I'm going to start on the electronics tomorrow. Get all the lights put back on and make sure they work.

Those 4.3 are everywhere. Should be easy to find one complete with ecu. Or just drop an LS v8 in there.

My previous post is wrong. Small pic on my phone and didn't realize that is a v8 above. Yes Blake do the v8.

Come on Blake. It would be sweet. Lots of power still easy to get parts and it would just sound cool. You know you want to.

Get ahold of Robert. I think him and his Dad had a couple sets of springs around the garage.
