But you're right, the dwr finishes wear out, even on nice gore tex jackets. The gore still keeps you dry but the outer nylon can get water logged. I've got one in that state now.

It's a great place for all types of rigs. It's very wide open and many trails have easy/moderate/difficult/and holy fuck, you're stupid even trying that in a buggy choices presented at all stages.
It's extremely rare to get trapped in a "trail" that you can't get out of. Even if you can't make an obstacle, you can almost always back out and do something else.
