I know it sounds bad, but these guys work more than in any other union shop Ive worked for. Ill give it to the boss for that - he will park guys on our shop like he did today so they can do BS busy work at the companies expense. Today one guy put the handles on our new kitchen cabinets. At my other shops if there was no work you were laid off. They all get to collect unemployment and they all do + we help them out with that as much as possible (bank hrs etc.). First shop I worked at guys were telling me they were splitting time for 6 months. My guys split time for 2 weeks last year. They aren't cheap either. We pay the union $735 per journeyman per day and foremen cost more.

HOAX DENIER
I spent the first 4 years of my pro life managing UAW, IAM, Teamsters, etc members for a very large aircraft mfgs. I had a couple of grievances - won all of them.

Two of my finest:

Misappropriation of Military funds
I had my guys build a grinder for tungstens since we were never able to get one through an acquisition and using any other existing grinder would contaminate the tungstens unless we changed and isolated the grinding wheel. The only reason he was complaining was because he was about to be fired. My other employees pressured him to write a letter to HR saying that the only reason he was complaining was that he was in fear for his job. A few months later he fired himself by being late many times. Oh yeah, the charge number and material my guys used for the build was a general overhead deal and had nothing to do with military funds.

Accused of Telling an Employee he was on drugs
Long drawn out deal. One of the biggest cocaine dealers in our plant - earned $12 hour drove a brand new SL convertible to work everyday and wore what seemed like a new pair of Tony Lamas every day. He was coming in late every day. I was willing to fight for him to start later and ween back to 'normal hours.' He said no. Then when I suggested 2nd or 3rd shift, he said his wife said he would party to much. Then I said, "Might this be something that EAP would help him with?" - he accused me of saying he was on drugs. While in the third hearing, he said in front of our Director of HR and the District Union Rep, "That man's crazy. Even my wife wants me to be drug tested. You all are crazy." Everyone looked at each other in a priceless, 'did he really just say that' way. They wanted me to give him a written apology. I did. I wrote, "I am sorry that I may have suggested that your inability to show up on time had anything to do with something out of your control." The Director of HR refused to share it with him and it went away. He was later convicted of attempted murder. I was told by an attorney years later that the total cost of all of his BS was $300k that the company paid in legal fees.

:eeek:

Ive had a few fun instances but nothing like that. Think one case settled for what I thought was a ton of money but the lawyers said it would save us in the end. That was denial of service to a drunk who I didn't want killing anyone on the road - he took a swing and next thing you know he's fubar and Ive got assault and battery charges on me, our owner, and a wine salesman who helped us hold him till the LEO's showed up.

First official correspondence from my office just came out since this thing started....and its three weeks late IMHO

Over cautious my ass.......These morons can't even use spell check properly.

Zero disinfectant in our office or jobsites except for the isopropyl I mixed up and diluted down to 90% from 99% then distributed to every jobsite and office. We had some get shipped in along with hand sanitizer stations but the boss took them home for himself of course lol

Meanwhile most of our office is in open shared spaces

if I do - it's an OSHA recordable incident so......

Don't get me wrong - if we had a hospital or other job that was truly life sustaining - I'd be all over it. I am not a fan of immoral BS in times of need. Two days ago I FW info on a NJ hospital thats close to me the Fed is looking to rehab/reopen to one of my good GC's and told him I'd be all over the entrances and windows and already know what they are and what it needs. Got no prob helping when needed - that's why I prep so I can help others w/o having to worry about me. Got issues using exemptions to do other work. Just keep it real and stop being a snake.

My "letter" in case I'm stopped lol

If anyone is interested - PM me and Ill send you a link. It's free.

These morons had better address community buttons and have everyone stop pushing the same ones in spots like Hospital parking garages, elevators, and automatic doors. Auto doors should be auto - not push button - thus the name....

Just got done cleaning my jobsite tools and car real quickly. I just gloved and N95 masked up. Ended up being the vestibule for some high end condo's in some ritzy philly burb. If it was a real jobsite I would of gone in w/o anything and just cleaned my hands and tools when done. NOT going in raw while in some community center's lobby for all the condo's. Only brought the tools I needed so cleaning was minimized ~ learned a ton the past few weeks.

Boss was in the vestibule w/me coughing up a storm as I was measuring - said it was allergies....sure it is. I asked him to please wait outside. Last night I tried to get him to let me go alone - I never need help unless it's some layout of weird angles and I need to snap lines. He said I would need him to show me where everything was (no blueprints - working for the owner direct). Yea....I measured the interior vestibule and an opening 5' away. Could of easily told me that and I could of called to confirm. He just likes to take meetings so he really doesn;t need to work. He just stood there bothing me while I was measuring and trying to focus. Took me 2x as long cause he would not shut up.

I was amazed he actually brought proper PPE to the jobsite (gloves and masks + disinfectant), but didn't wear any of it of course. Also he made no appointment w/the client thus the "sneak in" and the doors were secured via motion sensor interior/fob exterior linked to a interior surface mounted maglock so I had to gain access myself via tricks of the trade.

Still got my job, but formally resigned as our companies safety officer. Handed him a letter and just e-mailed a copy to him. He took it ok and understood. I said I'd pick it back up when the dust from this settles. Not going to put a bunch of stuff in writing, but lets say I'm covering my ass for his inadequacies. The internal e-mail chains are proof enough ~ I know what to respond to retarded requests.

lol @ mopp level 4 - just looked it up. I'm crazy but not that crazy. No mopp level 4 suits here. I just got a few cheapo Tyvek 400 suits and saving them for my mom should it get real bad lol

I hope you have all your emails backed up somewhere other than a work computer or work server. But good on you. Proud of you!

Danka! Had me up late last night.

I BCC all of them back to my personnel e-mail when I reply to idiocracy. I now know from experience to CMA w/anything and everything that has to do with the boss or his decision making.

At this point all I want to do is work for a owner who will follow the unions CBA, OSHA, and local laws. Not that hard to ask for, but hard to find with these smaller glass shops. Everyones cooking something it seems. Might just be time to go back to working for a mfg. Ive got one local glass mfg thats relentlessly coming after me but I had a buddy who worked there under different ownership for 8 years and they sucked back then. Now some hedge fund owns them so Ive been reluctant to reply to their inquires. I'd much rather work for a firm specializing in construction that understands the market trends not some hedge-fund baby douchecanoe. YThink they had 3 CEO's this past year.....keep rolling out guys w/no industry experience and they fall on their faces immediately

If any of you use Bluebeam at work and are stuck at home like me working this might help you out..... Ive got pretty god PC's but working remotely with this can be glitchy - heck even working on large documents w/o being remote can be glitchy.

Had a meeting this am w/my financial client. Looking to add automated doors to every single opening in their building. At a cost of 10k + per opening I think they will reevaluate when the budget is established.

On another note...... seems all the smart companies are addressing future concerns now so they can re-open eventually...

and yes the lack of mitered corners looks like crap for the bottom rails, but with the time and budget we all have constraints that need to be met and this method was deemed acceptable given their budget and compressed schedule.

also recommended film distraction strips but PA is behind the times in regards to common sense public safety building codes so people will just bounce their heads off it until they decide they want to put an end to their cleaning staff wiping down face plant grease marks lol

We just put up emergency sneeze guards on all our hospital receptionist desks. Looks like shit but is "functional" for now.

And yeah my work is currently stopping all non essential purchasing. Which sucks because I was about to replace three exterior glass exit doors on one of my buildings that have never worked right and have a 1/2" gap between all of em with a brand new, weather-proof store front. :(:BangHead:

That sucks about the spending.

Ive never understood glass doors used in exterior locations. Heck I don't even like them used as the interior set of vestibule doors.

Jobsite I had to meet my boss at last week ~ Ive got to rip out a AGE with a floating header and replace it with storefront and it's the interior set Working on those submitals right now. Needed fins for the floating header/transom (not engineered properly) and the door swing is opposite of the exterior doors for some idiotic reason. When you open up the 4' exterior door the inside glass door looks like it's going to bend in half and fall out of the channels when the wind hits it.
