Roof Top Tent (RTT) Mods or questions

Actually I think it would be useful for those that don't want to pack it up every day. I have been on 2+ week trips where we packed up every morning to go out wheeling.

That's why I keep to tents and hammocks. Never understood RTT's usage besides being high off the ground - I like that feature for sure, especially in bear country. Taking the time to set up and breakdown every single time you want to use the truck seems silly to me for what we do over here. We do far too many adventures from base camps that require using a vehicle to get to things vs overlanding where each night your at a different camp and once base camp is made you're good to go to bed.

If I did over landing I'd consider a RTT, but doubtful I'd change how I do things. Way to much $$, way to heavy, and way to big for a single guy who "passes out" in his camp chair 50% of the time

If we didn't have RTT's then we would've missed out this amazing camping spot where we had the mountain range to ourselves for the night. It was steep enough that you couldn't setup a tent. Like you said, with the RTT you're higher up so you get better views when you wake up in the morning.

But I've said it before. The RTT has it's place, ground tents have their place and RV's have their place. The RTT is just enough that I still feel like I'm camping without it being too nice.

And if I were too buy another tent, I'd get a hardshell one since the new ones they've come out with are awesome. Quicker to set up and take down, more aerodynamic and looks like it's slimmer as well.

I wish I had a put a notch for every time I got to use my RTT. I have used it more than any tent I have EVER used. I have camped in boulder fields with no trees. I have camped in the middl of a stream. I have camped on a good number of city streets. I think I have gotten away with it just because it was a RTT. Could you imagine me popping up a homeless tent and getting away with it! Half of the places I camp have few if any trees.

x2 about the low profile hard shell tents. When I bought my RTT they did not have an annex for the hardshells figured out. Now that there are annex options for the hard shell tents they are a really nice option.

Fumy you should say that. Did 50+ miles of trails this weekend. Passed a ton of "built" trucks on the trails. I'd look and give them a wave or thumbs up and they the same. Feels good having a car in spots others think are only "truck worthy".

New tires kick ass in sugar sand. With my front valance and under body skids pushing sand she still crawls right through.

I also dig the hard shell but they are waaaay more expensive and don't seem to have as much room as a soft tent and take up more space on the roof.

Just had a 70mph wind night in the RTT. Just had to position the truck so that the side opposite of the vestibule was generally into the wind. I also removed the rain fly as it was doing nothing other than making a racket!

I am going to add a few eye bolts to the floor so as to be able to put a bungee across the mattress/ bedding to keep it in position perfectly when folded/ unfolded. It will make setup easier.

On mine there is a strap for that. I don't use it because my sammich maker makes the bed. I was thinking of putting a plastic piece the width of the mattress attached to the stationary platform to keep the mattress from getting in the tongue and groove of the platform.

There are two straps that go across the middle but they do nothing to keep the foot of the mattress down.
