I've never done them but knew a guy who did and he had good results. His garage faced the west so afternoon sun just turned it into an oven. I think that is the key, depending on the positioning of the garage.
Yep that's how mine is. :(

I have ridge vent on my house. I noticed a little difference in my man cave when it got put on last year. I think it also looks nicer than whirly birds on the roof.
I did some research online that in south Texas, whirlybirds work better than ridge vents. But in reality, both of them work since your cutting holes in the roof and letting the heat escape.
On mine, I mounted them far back enough that you can't see them from the street.

I cut some foam sheet at my old house to insulate the garage. I forgot what the R value was but it seemed to help some since the door faced the west. I attached it to the door with some liquid nail type of of stuff.
This. It's what we did with my mom's garage and it works well.

Got a bunch of small projects finished this weekend. Basically, if it was on my bench, I worked on it until it was finished.

Installed new pulldown casters on my work table, so now it can mobile.
Bought some small parts so I can mount a little ceiling fan. I put in sunlight LED bulbs on it.
Rebuilt the front end on my lawnmower and JB welded a crack in the magnesium mower deck.

Rebuilt the front end on my mom's lawnboy mower (which I use). There was a huge "Y" crack in the magnesium deck, so I drilled relief holes to stop the cracking and gooped up JB weld on the outside & inside of the crack. It held up when mowing yesterday. Also sharpened the blades while the mower was apart. It felt like a brand new mower! lol All the rattling & shaking was gone and it was cutting like a champ! lol

Media room seating finally arrived... only took 9 weeks. Its kinda bright in there now so I could take the pics.. but they are comfy! I like them. The lighting underneath is not as bright as it appears.

Those look sweet, if I ever build a media room I would definitely buy some nice seating, I have a huge attic space, I bet I could have a 18 x 20 x 10h

Do it!! :) That would a big one! You could do all kinds of cool shit with a space that big. Elevated seating, lighting columns, HD projection... concession stand. lol

It all comes down to time, I would not hire out for such a project, I would have to do a set of stairs as well, probably from the garage, I can't believe the previous owner who had the home custom built did not utilize all that space, but I also think about the really hot summers and maybe that's why there is so much attic space

So last year I bought some LED replacement bulbs for my T8 fixtures in the garage. Well then I found out I have to rewire each fixture and I didn't want to go that BS. Well I just saw these a few weeks ago and bought a set. SUNCO 6 Pack T8 LED Tube Light 4ft 48", 18W, 5000K Kelvin Day Light, 2000 Lumens, Works WITH or without a Ballast! Fluorescent Replacement Lamp, Clear Cover, UL, DLC Plug and Play, 2 Sided Connection - - Amazon.com

No rewiring required... granted it daytime but they appear bright enough. I only bought 6 bulbs to start with but I like them enough that I bought 6 more and I'll swing by HD or Lowes and grab 2 more fixtures and put them up somewhere. Anyhow, not bad for the price and each bulb is a claimed 2000 lumens. Not the T5HO's that I wanted to do... but they will work. And save a little $ as well. I also pulled off the diffusers, they were more or less just bug catchers.

How much were those bulbs? IIRC, the price for those bulbs was as much as buying a new LED fixture, so I just ended up doing that.

My fixtures are already mounted to the ceiling and they didn't need to be replaced so it was better to go this route. I have several LED fixtures (4 total) but they all hang from chains and use a wall plug for power. But they are bright and I am satisfied with them.

Oh that's way cheaper than what I saw. Yeah I'd go that route as well for that price.

More experiences with contractors who won't show up. Wife and I have been wanting a pool for a while. Backyard is big enough, want something not too big (16x32) with a spa area, water feature, tanning ledge, and a freeform shape. Out of the 3 pool builders I've contacted and had setup to come give an estimate/design plan. ONE has shown up. 33% success rate. I have one more guy coming out next Friday morning. So we'll see. About the two who no-showed... I called and texted both. Not being a dick more of like "hey maybe I got the date and time wrong but I thought we had planned to meet today at 4:00.. let me know if I'm off or you can't make it so we can reschedule. Thanks" Crickets.
