Yep, I couldn't agree more about forgetting how to do stuff. I had an old tile tradesman (actually went to school for tile) from Virginia work for me awhile helping me install underground piping and setting drainage blocks (everything but tileSo many times I hear of these issues..... almost always in bathrooms from around the 60's - current. Seems everyone forgot how to do things right.
I was so afraid of screwing up a wet bed type shower I did a pan in mine and just tiled all the walls above it. Sure it would of looked much better had the floor been tile, but I wasn't risking it and thats after I put down Shluter on top of all the concrete board and plywood floor.
). He would grout the penetrations in the blocks so well that it all looked like one piece. Wish I still had his # but I lost it when that phone broke (pre-Google contacts).And my mom would never settle for a pan nowadays. So tile it has to be.
