Got skunked last night; was just too damn hot for much to move. I had a small group of axis come up right as it was too dark to safely shoot. The cows busted up the feeder and panels at my first blind. Hopefully today is a better day for targets.

Ended up getting completely skunked; my buddy and I did not see any axis outside that first night after dark. This morning I did spot n stalk for close to 5 miles of terrain. The guide is talking to the owner of the operation to see what they can do to get us on some axis. He is not happy we went 0 for 5 without even getting a chance to take a shot.

Quick pic from this morning while setup watching a trail through a clearing. The feeder went off 15 minutes before this pic and the whitetail walked from the right tree line straight across to the left tree line like morning zombies looking for coffee. But no axis.

South of Sonora. I will see how they try to make this right before I make a judgement on them. I will say the guide did everything he could just short of trespassing onto another ranch to get us onto axis. They have not had any rain this year so the deer are surviving off feeders and cactus. Saw lots of white tail eating cactus.

That sucks, hopefully he can rebook ya without additional costs to make up for it.
Because of the heat, I rarely see game out after 830am and they don't start feeding until about 30min before sunset.

*Hunting over or near water source/pond is your best bet because of this drought(no exceptions).

Because of the cost of corn(currently $11 to $13bag) I've been considering getting a protein feeder, the 18% protein is currently $18 bag, and primary feeds just the deer.

My buddy with the local land has been feeding protein with good results even considering how dry it is. He still has a regular corn feeder but only spins it for 3 seconds once a day right now.

Hog light setup. Couple green light bars and motion sensors from Amazon, an old work light stand, and a 12v battery. Way better than any other lights we’ve ever used.

Throw a 100 watt solar panel on that.

If you leave it, the hogs will get used to it. I know they don't pick up on the green (or red) light as well as white light, but its still something that is not "normal" when you set it up for day use.

Agree, probably attach it to a tpost so it doesn't blow over as well.

It will live at the feeder by the tank eventually that can be seen from camp and will be more permanent. But for now we can move it to whatever feeder we hunt. In other news…

POWA!

POWA is a good thing!

Yall already have a water well?
There’s no water here. Talked to a company and said they’ve drilled a handful of times within a couple miles of our place in the last couple of years and haven’t hit water yet. Neighbors all said the wells dried up. Have a 535gal tank and can just haul water from town. About $8 to fill the 535gal tank.

Dang, look into putting on 6 or 8in Gutters on that carport and incorporate a large cistern with a catch system.

This is your best option. @thekidcatcher has this setup at his ranch and it's surprising how quickly he can fill his drums up with rainwater. He hooked a small water pump and an instahot up to the lines so he has a shower, kitchen sink and outdoor faucet line now.

Might be something we look into later down the road if it ever rains. For now, $8 and an hour of time every few months isn’t an inconvenience.

+1 it took the pigs a little over a week to get used to the lights at the place I have been hunting.
