Spent an evening at my friends ranch. From the back porch its 235 yards to the feeder. There is a green motion light on it as well as a motion chime so it alerts you in the house when pigs show up.
My buddy shot 3 the night before and only used 2 bullets.
I managed a two for 1 as well. Pleased with the performance of my 264 win mag.

I may have secured a local hunting lease, :grinning-smiley-048:owners coming to my house tomorrow to meet with me, if you ever want to gain a persons trust, sometimes it’s best to invite them to the place you live, that says a lot about a person and how they live and take care of things. This property has not been hunted, except for occasional hogs near the house or cattle feeding areas, owners claim there are no deer, but they are not exactly fit, or fond of the outdoors. I have visited the property and I know the area, there has to be deer there. The cost of the lease will be zero dollars, but I’m going to offer up to X number of work in exchange to obtain hunting rights.
This is just not a huntin lease, it was also formerly the area DPS pistol/rifle range 15 years ago, of course the South Texas brush has taken over 60% of the range area. The range area just might the area of concentration of cleaning up:machinegun:, because the owner does like to ‘just shoot guns’ . There is an exotic game ranch, one property over from this place, I’m gonna let PETA know about this about a week before bow season, so they can open the cage, and help them poor and helpless animals out, lol

I’m just not sure how many hours I should offer up, just man hours, no tractor or machine, except maybe my mechanized horse aka 4 wheeler to assist me with spraying brush etc.

I’m thinking atleast 80hrs but under 120hrs. Maybe lesser hours this year, and if the hunting turns out good, invest more time in future years.

This local lease is ideal, from time I leave the house to closing the deer blind door, 25minutes commute, also because the family ranch is full of BS drama, some drunks and it’s forsale, and when shit comes up missing everyone is pointing fingers:monoloco: at each other and not themselves, tired of all that crap.

That is awesome about the lease. Good luck. I totally understand about the family BS. I would rather not hunt than to mess with my families land down south.

thanks, I’m really hoping this works out, they need the affordable help and I need affordable place to hunt, and this fits the shoe perfectly. If tomorrow goes well I’m gonna drag a 600lb feeder and blind out from behind the shop, power wash, paint and clean out etc and I will plan on having everything set up in the next few weeks.

Nice. I am setting up a new feeder at the neighbors place we hunt at this weekend. Feeder pen and feeder. The season is fast approaching

yes it is, and Dove season starts in September, but these temps need to drop, before I sweat my ass off for some small birds.

No idea what a normal lease goes for but I'd just take the normal cost then divide it by your hrly union labor rate lol

Since you won't know what you really signed on for until after the first year - just protect yourself. Maybe an incentive at the end of one year if all goes well? I know about 8 years ago when I started up a dept for a glass mfg they were unwilling to meet my salary demands upfront because we had no "trust" + they had no idea if I could make them money so we agreed that if all went well on year one that the difference in salary would be paid out as a bonus at the end of year one. That way the company was protected should I have turned out to be a turd. Obviously it would be the opposite for your situation, but you can always give them more money later - you certainly can not get money back if it's a dud or the people end up being crazy or the land is not to your liking

The deer have for sure found the cow peas. Watched 3 really nice bucks in them this morning while drinking coffee from the driveway.
Then about 20 pigs ran out into the pasture. Buddy shot this one in the head at 230 yards.

Been shooting the same bow for about 15 years and have no issues with it or how it shoots but it needs a new string. Decided to get a new string, tune up, sight, and rest instead of a new bow. I very briefly looked at new bows and was floored at how much they are running now. $1500 for a bare bow and then add another $750 or so in accessories and that is just crazy.
Bow shop said it should take them about 2 weeks to get the string ordered and installed. Will have it back just in time to get a little practice with it for bow season.

Damn!! Makes a new gun purchase seem like a cost savings.

X2 lol

if I ever move I'd like to get a bow. Always liked the serenity and focus it gave me to shoot them. Man it's been WAY too long since I shot one. Used to be one of my favorite things to do as a child.

I re-string mine every few years, been shooting this bow since 07 and I'm on my 2nd string set. I can't remember where I get mine, but you just give them the length and color combo and it shows up a few days later. Stringing it yourself is easy (or should be, my twin cam is) just loosen the limb bolts or use a ratchet strap to ease tension.

At the Hamilton Ranch, we would get monstrous bucks on camera before the season opened, and we never saw them when the season opened up, hope you better luck with them sticking around and harvest.

I hope so as well. Going through the pictures we have more deer activity than ever before. Also more nice bucks than ever. I think we have 5 or 6 bucks in the same class as that one in the pic above. Started feeding year round, putting out protein, mineral blocks, and the cow peas.
We have figured out a few bedding areas, patterns and all that so now its just going to be time in the stand.
