What have you done to your ride lately?

That OE design was just to pass front end collision and was never intended to be used with a winch or even to be pulled on. :(

Yep! Idk how some people have been using their winch regularly and never having a problem?

I hear you. I guess some bumper brackets are better than others.

New front frame section looks good, much better than the OE sheet metal :)

On another note, during my 200 mile drive back from Richmond VA this past weekend sounded like my truck was going to fall apart. Was trying to diagnose the sound on the way home, ended up using a metronome and calculating my gear ratio at the drive axle to conclude it was a ring gear failure (I know, I'm a total enginerd).

Going to call Chase at ECGS in the morning and let him know, should be covered under warranty, 4.56 nitro gears :(

A metronome? Was it an app or do you roll with one in hand? Either way, well nerded. :)

lol nah it was an app. Don't think I've used a real one since I quit playing piano about 15 years ago.

Had to google what a metronome is. Interesting; but sucks about the gears.

Yeah they should be under warranty so I hope there won't be any issues. Amazing the sound a failing R&P will make inside the truck. The noise traveled up the driveshaft and right into the t-case shifters. At first, made it very difficult to pinpoint where it was coming from, sounded like a bearing or a gear going bad in the transmission/crawl box/transfer case so we had to think a little outside the box. I'm just glad it wasn't in the tranny/tcase, fixing that is a little tougher than dropping a 3rd member

I had one implode at 70 mph on time. Noise was crazy for about 5 minutes and then kaboom. Almost not enough time to find an off ramp and exit the high way. Plan was to pull the DS and drive home in FWD but it grenaded before I could get off the highway

Well nerded indeed! I had one where I had to drive backwards for 10 miles. My suggestion? Get rid of that elocker and get an 8.4 with an ARB. :) Chase is a solid guy. I am sure he will do the deal. :)

Nice way to figure that out Anthony! Sucks that the gears went out. Thats odd that so many guys have had issues with them going bad...

Thanks again for your help!

Crap, now having heard that I guess I'm lucky to have driven 250ish miles through the mountains. The ticking was getting alot worse as I went so I wonder how much time I had left until they exploded.

LOL that's one way to get home, drive on the coast side of the gears haha. That will be my plan some time down the road, but I will keep the elocker until the warranty on them runs out, then I'm sure I will make the upgrade :)

Yeah shit happens I guess, and the e-locker isn't that great of a design. I'm wondering what took so long for the failure as I had been wheeling with these gears for over 2 years with no issue. No problem on the bumper mounts, glad you got it squared away!

Shower worked great. It was plenty dark and nobody was nearby to catch a glimpse of sasquatch.

rofl that looks like a pretty sweet setup!

I will third this.. no pun intended. :)

Oh yeah, I've seen the issues with that elocker and my truck is a heavy pig so I'm sure it's only a matter of time before I blow out another set of gears with 36s and a crawl box. Chase is a stand up guy though spoke with him this morning and he sent me a shipping label over, they are on their way to NC for a rebuild :)

Frack me..
the 8" is just not as strong as the 8.4".. You can make it work though, I have thrashed by 8" since day one.. after blowing up 2 of them, I sent the last one to ZUK. Haven't had a problem since (2 years now i think..), I daily drive it with a lockright in the rear. It destroys my tires, and makes tire noises and chirps.. and the occasional pop when it disengages but it hasn't broken any teeth off the ring since Zuk touched it. Carrier Bearing Preload is everything on the 8" diff...

Installed a heater shower on the truck.... ;)

Sean was asking me about my recent 2 week trip of living out of the RTT if we got to a shower everyday. We did not. We did however camp in remote locations where we could both comfortably heat up a gallon or so of water, stip down, wash our hair and our bodies. I like the idea of the solar if we were stationary in a hot climate but that wasn't the case here. Also, nearly all the campgrounds we saw in CO had places for you to hang the solar deals. I do have one of these: I just need to set up a pump and a recirc in a 5 gallon to allow me to get cold mountian water out of a stream and heat it to temp. :)

Those are nice. IIRC Sam has/had one. I have a Zodi that the wife bought me several years ago. Never used it. :( well other than to make sure it works but it did. I like that one better because you can control the temp. The Zodi just runs water through a coil in the propane fired heat box and makes it hot. So you get what you get.

x2 for a tankless system. I have thought about what it would take to bring my Ecotemp tankless water heater on an expo trip with me.
