Some maintenance: Greased all 11 zerks and was awesome fun getting at the front DS with full skids....
hell its fun with no skids, I bet that is a huge pain in the ass with them.

Got the front end torn apart and have begun measuring for the front bumper. I'm thinking its going to end up pretty Relentlessy looking. I like his bumper.

A Shot of How the Lower Control Arm (LCA) Looked
Thank God I was going about 1 mph when it finally failed!

What a Great idea for a Bushing Boss Skid!
This damage was from using a Shrockworks front skid (one other manufacturer's exposes this area too. With the new BudBuilts It offers some protection.

Half of a Half of the Problem
You can see the last half inch and how the failures were at both ends working in.

The Remaining Half of the First Half
You can see the thinning of the bushing boss.

The Other Half
Nice compressed/crushed bushing

Finally a Good Use for One of These
Prying back thin tabs on the chassis!

Lubing Them Up
Thought they would be well worth a batch of 'home brew!' This was the quietest poly bushings so far! :D

Freezer bag - used it to rub back and forth and warm up the grease. Cut a hole in the corner and squeeze out.

Making a 'Special Tool'
The 3/4" crush nut holding the lower uni-ball to the lower control arm was a bitch to tighten! The way I dealt with it was to grind off the sides of a 1 1/8" impact socket so that it would be 'captured' by the lower control arm. To hold the control arm, I mounted the lower control arm bolts (for the bushing side of the LCA). I also found it easiest to turn the steering wheel to full lock to the same side; While installing the driver side, I turned it full lock driver. The other thing I found useful was to jack the lower control arm up so that the machined part holding the uni-ball was flush up against the mating area of lower part of the spindle. This made it easier to get the bolts in since the uni-ball, at this point in time, isn't very easy to move and it also makes it easier to get the two bolts threaded since the tolerance of the bolts and the machined fitting is rather tight (no slop).

Installed!
Now to get the front end aligned (my Firestone Lifetime - I think I've already had 6!).

Message to DS regarding my new TC LCAs not working with my Camburg uppers.

Marco,

Just got off the phone with Nicole from TC. Much longer conversation than it needed to be but...

They are attempting to tell me that it's my truck.

Their 'proof' was that they took one of their guy's Tacoma and put on their lowers (it already had their uppers). They say that they get in spec! Between you and I - I hope so!!!

I tried to share with her that I understand that the Camburg design and their design are different and I'm not trying to say anything other than it may not be comparable with the Camburg upper. She then insisted that there are 'many' of these lowers out there on Camburgs with no complaints - who knows.

I really don't want to turn my LCA replacement into a long travel budget item - meaning I don't have plans on buying new uppers. I will more than likely go back to stock before I spend more on replacing uppers .

She then went on to suggest that my truck's LCA perches are flared out... I would buy that if the alignments that I achieved with the Camburgs didn't appear so tits on... From what I remember, the eccentrics were near neutral after I went from the All Pro ones to the Camburg ones. I remember being very impressed and pleased when I saw the eccentrics since I was used to the All Pro ones being full clock and still not in factory specs. Why the hell I ever bought the All Pros are beyond me but that's another day!

She was also suggesting that it was because I don't have their weld on tabs (I listened to her but unless they are changing the diameter of the eccentrics or choosing to reposition and open up the slot, that shouldn't make any difference).

So long story short, I am going to wait to hear from them again tomorrow.

I will keep you posted!

Roger
