Look into the F150 fuel tanks.. I think one from a early 90's model is what you want. It can mount between the frame rails where the spare would go. I was going to go that route on Clyde. Add a nice 3/16's skid. They don't hang down, they are pretty much flush with the frame rails.

I still kinda want to have 2 spares without putting one inside

How about a roof rack? Figure that if you are carrying two spares you probably are on a camping/expo type thing and carrying a bunch of stuff anyhow. I think the F150 tank was a 19 or 21 gallon? Pretty good size.

I use to keep my Yakima rack on my roof and it sucked mpg's, and as far as the F150 tank has anyone been able to get it to work properly with the factory float and wiring yet? I wanted to swap mine but everyone says its fucks your fuel gauge w/o some major rewiring :(

Yeah, there is no good solution to re-configuring the factory fuel gauge with a Ford or GM sending unit. Its why I'm not even going to bother hooking up mine in the fuel cell until I redo the whole dash and install aftermarket gauges through-out.

True.. just need to convert a GM 0-90 to Yotas 0-117 (0 is full, 117 empty). But Yota's have some funky variances (+2 to -3 on full, and + 7.7 on empty). So its not a straight conversion. You could add a 20-25 ohm resistor to increase the 90 to 110-117, but that would also effect the 0 to 20/25 for full. So it might look like its never truly full. Which might not be a huge issue. For me it will be a helluva lot easier to just add the correct gauge.

I think 3rd gen truck tanks will work as well and hold about 19gallons and need minor mods to make it work. That is the route I want to go at least.

Sean, I knew you would like that... I remember the farm that I worked on had an old Case or MF tractor that had one and I always thought it was simple and sweet! You've got to love farm equipment - nothing extra to break down. Although I will say, before I left home, our neighbor's, then new, combine was THE SHIT!!! Who would have thought you would have a stereo and a/c!!! :D He was a Baller by then selling half of his fields for homes and shopping centers!!! He's probably still laughing in his pine, scratch that, walnut with ebony trim box!!! :D
