It is a sad sad day... I went to Ace Hardware looking for a wood chisel do do a repair on my front door. I only found one f-ing chisel there made in the US... And it was in old yellowed Packaging. The others with the same part number were all made in China.

At least you have an ace hw, mine closed after years of trying to compete with the big box stores. I got a few Stihl products from them and it's sad when they closed

It truly sucks.

I am sickened every time I look in a Sears Craftsman section. It is all the same things that are sold at HF. I compete with China damn near every day. I hope to win.

Roger you should make some hand tools.. some nice polished wrenches that are made in the US of A.. charge a premium.. but they are built here! I'd buy a set or two.

The toolset that came with the Accura NSX back in the day comes to mind. Special tools to fit that car.. all titanium (we don't need that) and in a form fitting case. :)

This week I was given a bunch of antique tools by my dad that previously belonged to my grandfather and great grandfather. The group includes a set of wrenches, pipe wrench, hand drill (an old Stanley), drill bits, an old pick axe and a felling axe. All of the tools are in working order, but just need a bit of restoration or cleaning up. The cleanup project starts tomorrow. I will spare y'all pictures unless someone actually wants to see them.

Speaking of a vise. My sisters got me a Wilton for Christmas. Hopefully no more close calls when using the grinder now.

Ok, so I lied about the photos... Here is the before and after on the old axe my dad gave me. Rust removed, filed a new cutting edge, sanded the handle down and oiled it. First axe or hatchet I've ever owned that will shave you.

That's does look nice. My uncle gave me one very similar from my grandfather and it is in similar shape. I should try to restore it.

Thanks guys... I plan to do the same with all the antique tools I was given... Hopefully I'll be able to pass them on when I'm too old to use them.

If you are interested in restoring old handled tools I suggest taking a look at the Wranglerstar channel on YouTube.

If you are trying to get surface rust off. Take some pool acid and a 5 gallon bucket. Pour water and the acid in there and leave it for 20mins and it'll do all the hard work for you. Once it comes out rust, oil and dirt free, wash it off with a hose and spray paint it.

Got the old vise that my dad gave me working like a new one. Now to just drill a couple holes in my bench and mount it up.
